Lily and Aiden discover a second chance at love together in this summertime adult romance.
I picked this book up at my local used book store based on the book cover. It looked super cute – and, I’m happy to report, it is very cute! Lily and Aiden have loads of chemistry with a romantic history that validates their quick romance. I will admit to being disappointed for their initial reason for parting. I get why Lily left as a teenager, but I’m unsure why Aiden didn’t go after her.
While I liked the romance, the setting really made the book shine. I’ve never been to Colorado, but it sounds beautiful. The small-town atmosphere and the close knit Kincades add a charm to an otherwise straightforward story. If you’re a fan of Nora Roberts, you’ll probably enjoy this book. I do not plan to purchase the other two books in this series, but I would pick them up at the used book store if I see them.
tl;dr A charming setting with a believable romance between two ex-lovers makes this an enjoyable, quick read.

Jill Shalvis is my go-to author for when I want to read something that has humor, heart, and a whole lot of swoons. As soon as I found out she was writing a new series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Second Chance Summer. Each of Jill’s books have the same formula, but Jill always manages to make every story unique and refreshing.
Second Chance Summer focuses on Lily Danville. She was born and raised in Cedar Ridge but left after she was hit with two tragedies. She needed to get away. Fast. She left behind Aidan, who she was just starting to connect with. She couldn’t stand being in that town anymore, no matter how much she wanted Aidan.
Ten years later, and Lily is forced to come back. She was working at a high-end salon, and when that job burns and crashes, the only option she has left is to return to Cedar Ridge. Her friend Johnathan gets her a job working at a salon at Cedar Ridge Resort. The problem is that Cedar Ridge Resort is owned by the Kincaid family-Aidan and his brothers.
Aidan works as a firefighter and helps with the Search and Rescue team. On top of his already busy schedule, he helps out at the resort whenever he can. I immediately loved Aidan. He’s charming, caring, and he was just irresistible. He has his own demons, but he’s the type of person who cares more about other people than himself. When Lily comes back to town, he’s surprised. He never thought she would return.
The two of them have chemistry and a connection. I really loved their banter. I really loved watching them slowly make their way back to each other. Overcoming their fears and demons. Opening up to each other. This is their time to take the second chance they’ve been given and make the most of it, to give their relationship a real shot this time.
I absolutely loved Aidan’s family and their relationship in Second Chance Summer. I cannot freaking wait to read more about them.
I always say this in my reviews of Jill’s books, BUT I really love how her books are not filled with unnecessary drama. The characters always work through their issues by taking the time to actually talk to each other. It makes the books realistic and makes you connect more with the characters. I just really, really love how there’s not a lot of drama, but still a ton of things happening. There’s never a dull moment when reading a Jill Shalvis book. She always hits you with laughs, swoons, and feels.
The Conclusion:
Second Chance Summer is the first book in a new series. It’s filled with Jill’s usual witty writing, a great new cast of characters that you will fall in love with, and a heartwarming story that tugs on your heart strings and makes you laugh-out-loud. I had a blast while reading Second Chance Summer and I can’t wait to read more about the Kincaid family.

Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite authors and her books never disappoint me. Second Chance Summer is such a fun start to a new series that I look forward to reading more books from. I was sucked in from the beginning and I read Second Chance Summer while sitting at a lake for 2 hours. I was laughing out loud and feeling all the feels. I will admit that Lily’s back and forth attitude toward Aidan kind of got on my nerves. I understood her reasoning behind her motives but still. I loved the dialogue and Aidan’s family and just everything about this book.

This one was really cute, fluffy, and a breeze to read. I really enjoyed it and there were quite a few moments where I actually burst out laughing. The characters were relatable and I was definitely rooting for them! There just wasn't much of a plot, sadly. 3.5 stars for this one!
i really enjoyed the beginning and middle of this! and i love the kincaid family dynamics - they're hilarious together. in terms of the romance, i absolutely adored aiden. he was the sweetest and most thoughtful hero. but towards the end i couldn't stand lily. the girl had no idea what she wanted, she was indecisive and unreasonable when aiden made a "mistake" (which was just him coming to her with a question and her blowing it out of proportion). but overall, another fun summer read! i definitely want to continue the series and read about the rest of the kincaid siblings!
Lily Danville has just about lost everything. She has no money, no home and no job. Returning home to Cedar Ridge, Colorado might just be the fresh start she needs. Lily was fortunate enough to get a job almost right away. She will be working at the town's resort. Lily is none too happy, however, to discover the that resort is owned by the Kincaid family.
The Kincaid family. This is a problem because Lily is incredibly attracted to Aidan Kincaid. However, when she was younger, it was her sister that was head over heels for Aidan. Sadly, she lost her sister back then, and Lily is afraid to act on her feelings for Aidan. She wants her memories of her sister to be pure.
Meanwhile, Aidan is drawn to Lily and has never forgotten a kiss they shared ten years ago. Is this the opportunity for another chance between them? On the one hand, Aidan wants to pursue Lily, but he is incredibly busy as a wildlife firefighter. Aidan participates in a lot of search-and-rescue operations.
This story had a few layers to it. Lily and Aidan were growing closer, but a lot of attention was focused on the rescues, as well as other conflicts. Even so, I did enjoy this book by Jill Shalvis and have already downloaded the other two books, My Kind of Wonderful and Nobody But You. Even though this wasn't my favorite book by Jill Shalvis, I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

A little bit too similar to the Wilder series in terms of set up.
4.5 ⭐️
I really enjoyed this and am upset I let it sit on my shelf for so long! Lenny was atrocious, but other than that I really enjoyed all of the characters. There was one stretch where I was wondering if it was love or just lust, that got a little long but other than that I really enjoyed the second chance romance story along with them both coming to terms with their own insecurities and grief.

Trope: I want to say reconciliation romance but can it really be that when they weren't together in the first place?!

Review: This is one of those "I'm a massive fan of the author BUT ..." reviews so hang on tight.
I am a massive fan of Jill Shalvis but what was this?
I know getting a first book in a new series to be of a high standard is tricky when you've got to introduce all these new main characters, recurring secondary characters, the setting, laying the groundwork for future books and romances etc. but this really didn't work for me.
The main reason it didn't work for me was not really any of the above but the fact that we were told about the depth of Aidan's feelings for Lily right from the start. Now if they were childhood sweethearts and actually had a relationship way back when, I can believe that he spent the following years and years thinking of her and pining for her but actually what happened between them is one kiss. Yes one kiss.
Then we have the fact that Lily wouldn't allow herself to like him because she thought he was Ashley's (her now dead sister) and she still feels guilty for her death. I get the feeling guilty for her death bit but really why didn't she just come out and ask Aidan casually whether he was ever involved with her sister.
The majority of the book takes place in the salon or Lily's flat or up a mountain and the super speed that Aidan and Lily go from giving into their lust to saying "I love you" without a single proper date in between was warped.
The secondary characters introduced were a bit blah. Lily's friend Jonathan didn't win any points but I liked Aidan's mother. As to his brothers and sisters? The two that have me most intrigued right now are Kenna and Jacob. So while I was disappointed with this book, I am definitely not done with this series.
PS. Also seriously how many haircuts/facials does a sexy firefighter really need?! Maybe it's just me but the salon setting didn't interest me at all.
