Great sequel. I really liked every page- the two alternating stories of Alice and Ellery, the story of the Night Country, and the Stories- cool characters. Finishing this book made me want to go back and re-read the first one again.

Reading my first advance copy of a book has been a thrill! This sequel to The Hazel Wood was a slow start for me with scenes that felt like mere shock value. The gore ramped up from the first book, and the language and substance use were a bit much for my liking. But a new narrative point of few and intriguing new worlds developed, until I couldn’t wait to solve the mystery and discover how everything aligned. Questions were answered from the first book, and characters developed in interesting new directions. The ending was beautiful! Albert’s love of books and stories shines and grows out in tendrils just as her plots do!

I really enjoyed the first novel but this one felt forced. Maybe it was because this one was mainly set in New York, but it was less fantastical for me and more like a thriller or mystery.
