Karla's Choice does not precisely match the tone and register of the greatest espionage writer to ever lift a pen, and wisely, does not try.

Harkaway has very much created his own new thing, which will leave fans of George Smiley grinning widely and make many new ones. This is easily the best espionage novel written since le Carre's death in 2020, might dare say even better than a couple of Dad's. We are supremely lucky that such a brilliant character can grow and evolve without needing the hand of the father.

Does Thomas Harris have any kids that are writers?

Just didn't care about any aspect of the story. There seemed to be zero twists or surprises? A lack of imagination, covered for in fast talking?

A great effort. Almost a Le Carre. Like Mick Herron in the Slow Horses series, the strain of writing like the original leads to a surfeit of words ... nevertheless it's a wonderful read.

A tremendous achievement for Le Carré's son to write a Smiley novel that seamlessly fits with the legacy novels and also stands alone.

This was really well done! Not quite as obtuse as the man himself so that you don't feel that you have to steel yourself to begin reading nor are you quite as exhausted at the end. Mr. Harkaway captures the essence and contradictions of Smiley every bit as well as anyone else. The plot is engaging and very well considered.

Very nice work Mr. Harkaway!
