The atmosphere is palpable in this gothic tale of murder and betrayal and isolation. There are multiple twists and turns that I did not see coming, but that were hinted at, if I’d been smart enough to pick up on them. I read the author's other book "The Last House on Needless Street" and though that one is more well known, I thought this one was better. The narrator's soft Scottish burr is lovely.

I really enjoy this authors writing style, but both books I've read rely too heavily on a 'surprise twist.'  Except the twist isn't really surprising and it feels forced that so much effort goes into trying to build up to it.  

I liked this book well enough, it was creepy.  I will read more from this author.
