I picked this book up because I enjoy Tapper’s work on CNN and was interested in the historical aspect of the book. I wasn’t disappointed! If you like historical fiction, especially if you find the 50s intriguing like I do, read this book.

Page-turner thriller that stretches credibility in places, but that's the hallmark of the genre. I enjoyed having the 1950s political scene come alive. Plenty of villains here, but I think that's always been the case in Washington, DC. In all, a good story with twists throughout and hard to put down.
This was okay, but I was expecting better. I felt that there was some poorly researched aspects of WWII as a part of the story. Jake Tapper did an excellent job in writing historical characters such as McCarthy, Cohn, LBK and the Kennedys. However, I felt there was a lot of heavy foreshadowing and the end seemed very rushed. 2/3 of the book I was not sure what this story was about and he did not really discuss the titular club until the last 1/3 of the book.
A plot-driven book with very little plot that actually propelled you forward until the last 50 pages...
Liked the ending and was surprised bY the twist but the beginning really labored on and I found it hard to buy a lot of the premise of the political reality

All I had heard were good things and they were true. Great story with just enough history thrown in. Tapper is good. I’d love a sequel.
Dear God. I hated this book.
I normally enjoy historical fiction and political intrigue, so I had high hopes for this one. However, it fell really flat for me. I thought the character development was extremely weak. Extremely. The story felt like a masculine fantasy of how dramatic and intriguing Cold War politics must have been, without actually creating the sense of drama and intrigue for the reader. And especially toward the end, the thinly veiled analogies to current day politics had me rolling my eyes.
