I, like many others, picked up the book because of the Netflix movie. I really enjoyed it, thinking it was adorable, and the book was just as adorable. I did find that at the beginning, Jenny Han didn't really have her voice nailed down, but it really all came together at the end. At times, the "young voice" the writing was going for felt forced, but again, by the end, the writing was smooth and there was a clear voice that was fun to read and hard to stop listening to (since I did listen to the audiobook).
I love these characters. They are all so charming and they felt so real. I just adore these characters and want to read more about them and have good things happen to them. I'm just really invested in their happiness. Jenny Han did an amazing job of creating such wonderful characters.

Cute story. I couldn’t stand Margot, the oldest sister. I wanted the ending to be a little more resolved and satisfying.
Lara Jean is 16. Her older sister Margot is going off to college in Scotland and breaks up with her boyfriend Josh. Their mother has died, so it's just Lara Jean, her father, and her 9 year old sister Kitty.
As Lara Jean adjusts to life without her big sister around, she realises that something disastrous has happened. Lara Jean has loved 5 boys in her life - and found a novel way to get over her crushes. She has written each boy a letter telling them how she feels, then put them in sealed envelopes. She never intends for any of the boys to read the letters - WHICH IS WHY SHE HAS ADDRESSED THEM??!!!!
I gave up on this at 38%. Lara Jean was woefully boring and I hated the writing style. I detest not finishing books but life is too short to sit through another 62% of this drivel.
Things I did not like:
1. If she never intended to send the letters, why did she address them?
2. How did she find out all the addresses?
3. Why is she willing to screw her older sister over with Josh?
4. Why is she willing to be the bait for another girl to be jealous of her Ex?
5. Why is she best friends with a horrible, disrespectful girl with no morals?
The premise was so interesting - people finding out your deepest thoughts about them, reading something they were never intended to see. The execution however, was poor and I will not be reading anything by this author again.
I realise I'm about two decades off the target audience for this one but it was one of the worst books I've tried to read this year. Deleted.

Some things I couldn't get past were how an 18 year old and a 16 year old were still referring to their parents as "mommy" and "daddy" also how emotionally stunted the protagonist was. It was like the book should have been written for middle grade fiction.
What I did enjoy was the full shaped family and other characters. The younger sibling was well portrayed without making her too whiny or too cutesy which not a lot of authors have been able to pull off well.
A very light hearted read that will leave you craving baked goods.

I was pretty sad that the ending of this was so rushed. The rest of the book was so funny and well plotted that it came as a surprise how quickly everything was tied up.
OH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT ENDING???
i loved this movie so i was really excited to read the books but i never got around to it. at first i got really mad bc, obviously, there are huge differences and many scenes (really cute ones!) were cut but ultimately i loved this book too. its just so cutesy and it has my favorite trope and i relate to lara jean so much!
peter comes off v differently in the movie, where he goes from jock to smitten overnight. its nice to see that in the book it actually takes him longer to change his mind about gen and lara jean. i really love both his book and movie versions anyway.
idk why im comparing to the movie so much but the family dynamics were a lot more realistic in this and i liked that a lot.
i just know that ps i still love you is going to piss me off!!! i dont like john ambrose but whatever.
kavinsky rights.
