Hell Hath No Fury by Annabelle Anders

“It says ‘historical, romantic comedy’.” Hmmmm, an interesting mix, I wondered what that meant. What it means is delicious, guilty pleasure fun! Think Cinderella devising ways to off her husband because he isn’t quite the Prince Charming he was set out to be. Mix in another hottie in the wings, some best friends that any girl would kill for, and just the right amount of spice and that pretty much sums up Hell Hath No Fury by Annabelle Anders.

A courtly romp during the height of British high society, Cecily learns that no title or amount of money can make her accepted by the ton, and that those of that society certainly aren’t guaranteed the good manners that the word is supposed to represent. Moderate on the heat level, I thought the “steamy” scenes did not override the plot. The story moves along at a great pace, and while there is some fine tuning that I would suggest (Ms. Anders repeats details and descriptives at times), these did not detract from my enjoyment whatsoever. Hell Hath No Fury is listed as book one in the Devilish Debutantes series, so I am excited to see what is in store for Rhoda, Emily, and Sophia in future instalments.

Should I read in order?
This is the first in Anders’ Devilish Debutantes series.

Basic plot:
Cecily realizes her husband just married her for her dowry so she hatches a plan to have an affair to get him to divorce her.

Give this a try if you want:
- Regency (my assumption)
- London setting
- taboo/forbidden vibes – the heroine is married to the hero’s cousin
- affair
- heroine in danger – multiple attempts on heroine’s life
- a bit of a bonkers soap opera feel!
- medium steam – 3 scenes

Ages:
- Hero is around 29. I didn’t catch heroine but would guess early 20s?

First line:
If it’s the last thing I do, I will free myself of that scoundrel.

My thoughts:
This is my first Annabelle Anders and I had a roller coaster of feelings about this book. Definitely going to try more from her!

So this one gets a bit crazy. It actually has a lot of things I generally don’t love in romance (the heroine being in a relationship with someone else the whole book, lots of attempted murders of the heroine and
a pregnancy that she hides from the father for a time

But, there was something about it I was rather fascinated by. I was very into the first half of the book – I liked that the mains spent a lot of time together and I did love the taboo vibes of having an affair with your husband’s cousin haha. The ending got pretty crazy. This isn’t one I would reread, but it was definitely memorable.

I mean, this is the first book I’ve read that the cheater literally gets his balls chopped off. So if you are here for that type of revenge, definitely pick this one up!

Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

- mention of hero (Earl’s brother) being in India, having relationships
- multiple attempts on heroine’s life, including pushing her into the road, poisoning, snakes put in her bed
- feelings of infidelity – the heroine is married (to not the hero) and he cheats on her multiple times, has a mistress and is cruel – she begins a campaign to get him to divorce her, including sex with his cousin while still married
- childbirth death of a parent

Locations of kisses/intimate scenes:

Safe sex:
No – the hero blows it in her while she’s married to his cousin and they have been separate since the wedding

Hows the consent?
It’s implied/explicit. They talk about acts and both are definitely consenting

34% - kiss
44% - kiss
57% - 🔥 kisses, oral for her, followed by a bit of talking and then missionary

One thought pulled into his mind and took up residence. She is mine. She stared down her body at him with a very heavy lidded gaze. “You wicked, wicked man,” she said teasingly, whereupon he caught his breath.

75% - 🔥 kisses, missionary
”I don’t need romance today, Stephen,” she said a bit breathlessly, “as long as I have you.”
He was in awe, painfully aroused, but in awe nonetheless.
“Then have me you shall.”

86% - 🔥 oral for her

“I can make love to you without penetration. I can take a great deal of satisfaction without it.”
“Oh, you can, can you?” She dared him.

This story keeps twisting and turning...

I love Cecily, she is so strong even when she has been manipulated. Flavion's only redeeming quality is his love for his cousin. And said cousin Stephen is wonderful man who feels responsible for everything around him. Don't ever think you know where this story is going, because you will be wrong. Down to the wire you would never guess. Don't miss this sweet sexy highly addictive read.

*I was provided a copy for my honest review.

This one is so different from any other that I have read and it is amazing! You will not be able to predict how it ends at all. I was hooked from the start in the ballroom when it was clear to everyone what they thought of each other. I somewhat felt bad for her husband especially after the duels, but the twist in the end killed that feeling and he got what he deserved. There were sparks from the start between them and I wanted them together so much. The ending was perfect and I loved how everyone ended up.

Cecily was not going to become one of the ladies that turned a blind eye to her husband’s doings. I loved her right away because she did not hide her feelings from anyone and was set on finding a way to have her freedom again. I cheered her on every time she stood up to someone.

Stephen was such an honorable man that would help both of them in any way he could. I loved him because he realized he couldn’t always fix something and when he let her loose with the pool cue. He blamed himself for things that weren’t his fault and needed to let go of that feeling.

I loved her friends because they were helping to plot and I loved her father because he made sure the contracts were in her favor. I would also fear him too because he would protect her.

I liked it. Cecily must be the most irreverent heroine I have read about, ad yet she's lovable nonetheless. And Stephen is a great hero.

Well my fellow readers, This was a good book to read. It had excitement, suspense, cat fight, romance and one dimwit of a husband. I apologize if I offended any husbands out there, but this guy takes the cake. Cecile, she is a very forgiving woman. Woman of today are strong, independent, survivors and don’t bleep from anyone.
In today’s world Flavorine would be mince meat. Flavorine exit left, Stephen, enter right. Stephen a man among men every woman would love to have. Read the book to hear his story as Cecile works to outwit her husband. This is a one time read for me, although I look to read more from this author.

In terms of narration, I would give it around 2 stars cause the British accent was very questionable.

Story-wise, I don't think any aspect of the story stood out to me although it was engaging enough that I managed to finish the whole thing. I'm giving it a 3 solely because of
Flavian got what he deserved when he lost his testicles, poetic justice and whatnot
if not for that, I probably would have given it a 2.50 or 2.
