It was extremely interesting how Coe combined three genres in his novel. I found the cosy crime and dark academia sections quite well blended and interesting. The crime mystery presented is formed by an appropriate level of clues, we get some relevant suspects, and it’s all formed around British politics. To me it was the politics that were at the forefront of the plot, and the murder mystery was used to explore this theme. The final section I was not that fond of. I found Phyl and Rashida to be quite poorly written and the autofictional approach was jarring in comparison to the previous sections of the book. The fact that the murder mystery was a fictional story written by Phyl was disappointing. It made the majority of the book feel a bit pointless and I think it detracted from my reading experience.

yeah babe you’re so right, conservatism is bad. yeah babe, it’s an original thing for a “satire” to focus on, and i’ve never seen it done like this before x

Playful presentation of a murder mystery. Set at the time of Liz Truss’s premiership and portraying some of the gruesome rightwing figures which lie behind her political “thought”. A labyrinthine plot with a satisfying conclusion.

Oppure quella su come non potrà mai essere così semplice come il "see it, say it, sorted", come i conservatori vogliono farci credere. Se vediamo la realtà in modi così diversi, come cambiare le cose?
