This elegant historical fiction read was greatly enhanced by listening to the audio version. Juliet Stevenson narrates and does an exceptional job of bringing the stories and characters to life.

I picked this up because I loved the author's debut novel - The Jane Austen Society. For me, this book did not quite live up to that one, but I still found it delightful and immersive. I felt like a few of the relationships and storylines could have been fleshed out a little bit more, but I understand why the author handled things the way that she did. The switch between focusing on each of the ensemble cast of characters allows the author to give a wider view of the story, but does not allow the reader to get quite as deep with each character.

Probably a 3.5 but an enjoyable, immersive novel of historical fiction set in a bookstore in 1950 London.

Five or six years ago, I was all over historical fiction. It probably made up a third of my reading, but slowly those numbers have dropped and I’ve become

Couldn’t resist picking this up, as I loved The Jane Austen Society. This book had an interesting storyline with some romance and some problem-solving. Felt like it was leaning into stereotypes, but then again, they’re often stereotypes for a reason z some colorful characters and some insight into British life post WW2.

Stuck between 2 & 3 stars.

Better than the first one. Liked Evie and Grace and Vivian and Ash and the Earl. Kind of still confused about a lot of what was going on.

Third person omniscient is really not for me.
