I bought this book at the 2020 Queer Thinking event for Mardi Gras. In the cover was a ticket for an event I went to in February 2020 in Sydney, and it was like a momento of the last major event I went to before covid came to Australia the following month. I used the ticket as a bookmark.

My recollections of this book are a bit fragmented as I took a lot of reading gaps. It's a solid memoir - it gave me a glimpse into the author's own experiences and how she came into herself. I took down many quotes because there were many good points. I should reread it sometime to connect to it better.

While I really appreciated the life story of the author and all the rich details included, I really didn’t like the writing style of the book. Aside from feeling disjointed and oddly paced, I felt like the author kept me at arm’s length. Maybe it is because of the journalistic background she has, but most of this book felt quite stiff and distant to me. Glad to have read it for the perspectives offered.
