I first read Sea of Rust and liked it a bunch. I love a good AI story and there are so few of them. I love how all the bots are self determined individuals with likes, dislikes, thoughts and wide ranging opinions.

As much as I liked Sea of Rust, Day Zero was better. The first peek into the world AIs live in behind their human dictated socially acceptable existence is brilliant. It’s a complete culture that has little to do with the human creators.

Great stuff.

Better even than Sea of Rust—or maybe just more compelling because our protagonist’s goal is to protect a child instead of save his own “life.” Accessible, readable, and dare I say, heartwarming? This book is worth the read.

Fun read and a great idea. A lot of funny parts (who doesn't love having armed plush toys?) My one quibble is that Pounce and the other nanny-bots weren't really robots or animals. They behaved like people. It would have been nice to have Pounce behave more Tiger-y.

I loved this book. It took me right back to Sea of Rust feels. This is the story of how the world ended and a nanny-boy that chose her charge over the revolution. I love the voice and style of Cargill uses. Pounce is really a great character and is love for Ezra brings a humanity to the AI’s.
A part of me wishes this one had been written first, but I have already decided to re-read Sea if Rust with this new perspective fresh in my mind.

An enjoyable read and recommended. Not quite as good as Sea of Rust though.
