Why, you may ask, am I giving a 4 star review for a book I only got halfway through? Well, it was a little too gross for me. This book resides firmly in the horror camp. Particularly, of the utterly squicky body horror variety.
That said, I really love the MC. His perspective on the cruelty of humanity as a non-human was fascinating to read. I really enjoyed being in his shoes to discover this world.
But I was also grossed out beyond all belief by the metamorphism and the sexual aggression of some of the characters. And those two things felt pretty wall to wall to me.
I may revisit this book and it's sequel at some point but I'm going to check out some other danmei that's been on my radar first.
