It was not what I imagined it would be. Not my type of book. And I the end I'm still confused, especially about what really happened that night that started the nightmare.

Wow, this was such an interesting way to dive into the family trauma - A sister giving up so much to help raise her brothers, the brothers not appreciating all that she did for them, not acknowledge how much Calla gave up and endured, trauma, parental abandonment. Whew! And during all of that, still so much comical and realistic sibling dialogue lol
At first I was confused by this book and I found it hard to get into. Part 2-3 is what did it for me.
In the end it was very sweet!

Right off the bat the humour is perfect. I was laughing for the first chapter, thinking this was mislabeled, not a horror surely, but we got there.
Calla is the oldest sister of 2 brothers, and from an early age has been her brothers keeper, it was only love and affection, and responsibility that kept her boys protected at the start, but as they got older Calla becomes the legal guardian to her youngest brother and is legally on the hook for him as well. Calla is tired, lonely and unappreciated. Her brother Dre has good intentions but that is about it, no follow through and Jamie is a sweet faced hellion who is incredibly selfish but also still young so its understandable.
I felt for Calla every step of this book, she was an excellent main character. Her brothers made me nuts, but I knew it would destroy her if anything happened to them so you have to root for all three of the siblings. I loved this book but I will say it does get repetitive in going through the same dream over and over again, and the middle of the book lagged a bit, But this story made me feel all the things and as the older sister to 2 younger brothers I understood how much you love them, how important their happiness and safety mean to you. Excellent Book

I love the tone of the author. She was very funny and extremely relatable. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because it took too long for me to realize what’s going on. I was confused for a bit.

My favorite kind of horror functions as a deep dive into being human, with layered characters and complex problems that take more focus than the actual monsters do—and that’s exactly what this book does. The story centers on a family weighed down by generational trauma where the horror embodies everything they can't quite face head-on.
It does get a little convoluted at times, but overall, it felt like reading something both unsettling and cathartic—like therapy with more ghosts. I’m really excited to see what this new voice in horror does next.
