This one was still excellent, but it dragged a little bit, and is my first rating that I'm rounding up to four, rather than down. I'm still really captivated by the series, and especially these later books don't feel so exclusively like books for younger readers. Especially because they're getting much longer.
It is always tedious when someone tells you that if you don't stop crying, they will give you something to cry about, because if you are crying then you already have something to cry about, and so there is no reason for them to give you anything additional to cry about, thank you very much.
I finished this a week ago and ahhh!! The plot thickens! I am loving Sunny becoming a bit older every book and cannot wait to finish this series, because I NEED to know everything.

So after finished book 8, I concluded that it was my favorite book so far, however after reading book 10 I think it might be safe to say that this installment has taken the place as my favorite in the series so far. I definitely think that the second half of the series is a lot more exciting due to the fact that the children are starting to take their lives into their own hands. (GORGEOUS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT) It's so crazy to think that the three children at this point are 14, 13, and you know.. a toddler.. but yet all three at this point in the story had to grow up so quick so that they can figure out the mysteries that are surrounding their lives. I think that might be why I love violet so much. I feel like of three, just by her being the oldest it seems like she has obtained more of like a maternal role over her siblings, and you can tell how much she is sacrificing to keep them safe (Especially in the Hostile Hospital) So needless to say, without including spoilers, that when she was climbing the waterfall with "Q" I couldn't help but smile for her, because of how much she deserved that "moment of privacy" (as described by Lemony Snicket), and thought it was such a cute scene. I legit was so excited about all the major reveals that were included within this book and am still so excited and curious as to how things will play out, by the end of this book I think that you can see how loose ends are starting to get tied up in the wake of something bigger that is on it's way. 10 down 3 to go!
On the Book: I really love that this book changes the typical order of things, it really feels more like book nine and a half than book ten. Since book nine ended on such a cliffhanger (quite literally), it gave the author a chance to switch up the pace of the storytelling. So many questions answered, so many more unlocked. I'm still hooked.
On my Setting: I'm at the preschool desk and it's as dead as Beatrice Baudelaire down here. I've had exactly one patron need me and it was John finally getting his library card. Other than that I've had quite a few library first-timers wandering around aimlessly, but no one that seemed to need assistance staring more at the ceilings than at the books. Though one patron did just mutter "my precious" while entering the restroom so maybe it'll get more interesting. Stay tuned.

This book has definitely made me the most nervous so far. These children should know that nothing good ever happens when they are separated, but maybe the Baudelaire's have a bit more luck than we first thought. That or these children are incredibly clever. I love seeing Sunny grow up now too!! It's so awesome that she is "not a baby" anymore. So many secrets are decoded in this book, it's getting hard to keep up, but yet, there are still so many I solved mysteries remaining. Snicket, you've got a lot to wrap up in the next three books.

I decided not to rate this book because I didn’t rate any of the other books in the series that I have read previously. (and I didn’t want to begin with the last four) but I can tell you this wasn’t my very favorite but it was good nonetheless.
