This is a MUST read. This book has opened my eyes to the British (and American) Empire, media and our “heroes” to learn not to take what we see at first glance. There's no other way to say it, read this book !!

An interesting mix of autobiography and polemic. I enjoyed it but at times I thought it was a little too unstructured and chaotic and prone to heading off at tangents. Perhaps that’s the nature of the autobiographical part. I’ve heard Akala debating and he seems much clearer and focussed and more compelling in person. Clearly a very bright guy

this book is incredibly informative and i always love reading books on race and colonisation from a british perspective. there’s a lot to learn in here and some chapters are extremely interesting and have a lot of knowledge packed in. i will say though, that some chapters towards the end aren’t as focused as some of the earlier chapters, and at some points i was a little confused as to how we ended up where we did. with that being said, it’s a really valuable read and i’ll recommend it for years to come.

Akala’s voice is so nice to listen to this feels like having a chat with a pal over drinks. Really good UK-based perspective on race.

While the facts and some parts are executed very precisely, it seemed like it was a jumble in many parts.
I also don’t like when authors write sentences like I am a “homie” from the hood. I may not “get” your slang. Also, some parts were very snarky with him on his high horse looking down on us “whites”.
We do need more books, noise, light on these issues. However, this could’ve been executed in a much better way than it was while still using all of the information in it.
