I have read a couple Geissinger books and this is my least favorite. I gravitate to her books when I am looking for an unpredictable story. Midnight Valentine was very predictable.
I am not convinced that Megan liked anything about Theo other than that he reminded her of Cass. Also, in his accident, did Theo’s entire personality and existence get replaced with Cass’s?

Mute Hero. A grieving Widow. (She is 32) An unexplainable force connecting the two. A mystery that begs to be solved. This is one of those books that I know I will never forget. I just stayed up all night to finish it because I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. A heartbreakingly beautiful, thrilling, mind blowing, unbelievable, jaw dropping, unique story. Every book by JT Geissinger never fails to amaze me. My entire body broke out in chills so many times while reading this. If you liked Pen Pal and Perfect Strangers then read this! Absolutely loved it and it’s one of those books that I know will be staying with me for a long time.
P.S. my heart thanks you JT for not ending the book the way you originally wanted to;)

I really wanted to love this, especially coming off of Perfect Strangers (by the same author), but I didn't.

With dead spouses, you always run the risk of the new lover feeling like a consolation prize. Or with reincarnation, that the new lover is only loved because they remind the person grieving of their lost love.

Unfortunately, not enough was done here to make me believe that our FMC, Megan, actually loved her new lover, Theo. For me, it just felt like she loved him because he did everything and sounded like her dead husband. This was so unfortunate, so just plain awful. It made me feel terrible for the MMC, Theo, because she didn't seem to love him for him.

There is genuinely NOTHING given to us from Megan's standpoint that she loves the MMC for him, rather than being her dead husband reborn. Honestly, she comes across as sociopathic and selfish with little regard for the man underneath the mask of her husband.

The book ends so soon after she realizes the truth, and we get no scenes of further development between them.

It's...really bad, and I can't say that I will touch anything else with this trope.

Another issue is that I felt so depressed for Theo. Who is he? We never really learn about the real Theo, other than his reincarnated self. I felt so depressed for him, suddenly with another man's thoughts and feelings, the real him screaming to have control over his own mind and body. He had a completely happy life before the reincarnation, and all of that was thrown away which is heartbreaking, especially for a woman that doesn't even love HIM. What about his childhood sweetheart? What about his ex-fiancee? Nope, sorry my guy, you now have to masquerade around being this dead guy, with his sociopathic wife, all of your dreams and the woman you loved before everything happened thrown away.

Genuinely depressed for this poor guy.

Unfortunately, these two things completely ruined the book for me. This was NOT a romance novel, it was a horror story.

DNF at 87%. if you’re a highly spiritual person, give this book a go. i couldn’t really enjoy the book after the major plot twist. i’m super sad because i loved it up until that point.

i’ll 100% be checking out more of this authors books though, she’s a fantastic writer!
