First book on Buddhism and first book of 2018. Such a good start. Reading these teachings and meditating on them is better than all the money getting paid on the new age-y meditation apps. In depth ideas and an amazing introduction to Buddhism. Will certainly reread and buy it in paperback to keep it at hand.

Not a book to read cover to cover. It's short 2 page topics to reflect upon and provide some space to let the book unfold as you are Sometimes I would just flip open the book to a page for a "lesson" and see what came to me. Definite wisdom here in bite size pieces.

I turn to this book several times a week to assist me in my attempts to lead a more authentic life. I find new truths and challenges in it all the time.

A great collection of short musings. I was reading it really slowly - just one at a time, every few days, sometimes with long breaks in between and it almost always seemed that the one I was reading had some important insights for me specifically to what was happening around me :) Definitely a book I'll be coming back to time and again.

I began reading this book after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. I had read and listened to several of Pema Chödrön’s teachings before and I believed that she was the teacher who could accompany me through the terror of a cancer recurrence and the discomfort of treatment. I was right. Over the past year, I have savored this book slowly, reading each of the 108 lessons for two days, and at times seeking out guided meditations on similar themes. I could have taken longer. I could probably read this book everyday for the rest of my life (which, prayerfully, will be a few more decades). I’ll definitely be returning to it.
As a Buddhist-leaning Christian, I find most of Chödrön’s writings and teachings to be challenging but also complementary to my faith. There are a few passages toward the end of the book where she is overly critical of deistic faiths. Ironically, it was wisdom from other parts of the book that allowed me to view her opinion without defensiveness and to continue to receive from her.

I've read about two to three of these very short chapters each morning. In my new exploration of Buddhism and meditation practice (and the timing of some crises in my life), this book crossing my path was fortuitous.
This is the first book I've read by Pema, and I am sold. She writes in an accessible and engaging style, even for a noob like me.
The content of this book, along with a gratitude and meditation practice, is shifting how I "do life". Feeling more grounded and ok in uncertainty, even when I feel like I'm drowning in it. Still feels terrible, but I can keep better perspective and be more kind to myself and those around me.
