I wanted to like this so badly but it was so dull that it made it incredibly difficult for me to do. I'll be 1000% honest and say that I only finished it because of the flecks of romance here and there but I wouldn't have otherwise.
finally read this book after a year of sitting on my desk! and it's brilliant. fascinating concept of this dark Arab-inspired fantasy world - great execution - intriguing characters, wonderful writing (though a tad heavy handed with character descriptions). that epilogue!
4/5 because I have two bones to pick; the first, Deen as a character and storyline served no real purpose other than making me as a reader resistant to the main romance; the only time i thought he might actually matter was in the epilogue. the second, though i tried to make sense of the plot in the last few chapters, i couldn't. everything happened way too quickly, and i got lost in the (under explained, over done) sauce.
all in all — recommend!!

This book started kind of slow for me, however, once they made it to sharr, it really started picking up. After that, I didn’t want to put it down. It was so entertaining with the action, the hint of romance, and the plot twists.

Well well well, this was an unexpected surprise! Plot wise, this was pretty good! I had some issues with the action scenes, they felt a bit vaguely put together, but the characters were great! The story is well thought out for sure, I would’ve devoured this as a young teen. The addition of Benyamin and Kifah did feel a little too convenient but I enjoyed their addition to the story. Altair is my favourite character so far!
I was so excited to read this book because the premise sounded so awesome. However, I kept spacing out during the 16 hour audio. Note: I am not a huge fan of fantasy or romance. I will give credit to Faizal did not have the romance between the two main characters did not start until the 9 hour mark.
