This book was SO CLOSE to being something else, but in the end, it faltered, and it's not what I thought it was.

This book was just underwhelming in every aspect.
It's not a bad fantasy, especially the arab-inspired setting is really unique and beautiful but I expected a lot more, plot- and character-wise.

Didn't caught my attention. IF the first 50 pages don't get me hooked then I know immediately that the book isn't my thing. But I read like 120 pages and the book still wasn't for me. So that's why I dnf the book.

adventurous mysterious reflective tense medium-paced

This book was SO not it for me. I kinda knew it would be going in, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this blah. The plot and the characters thinking is so repetitive and I really felt the pacing was off, though I thought that about Hafsah Faizal’s other book I read so maybe it’s a stylistic incompatibility. Just the fact that the chapters are so long at first and then they get shorter and shorter and we keep changing POVs every time…sigh

I don’t think the characters have arcs that show change, it just all happens abruptly, the romance included. Also I literally did not care about Benyamin or Kifah (whose name is TOOOOOO similar to the fmc’s I kept getting confused) they just appeared and were there for exposition dumping (in Ben’s case) and ????

Anyway, probably would have eaten this up five years ago but unfortunately the me of today is not here for it :((
