Love rereading this book.

I quite forgot I've enjoyed the heck out of this book a year or two ago - reading it once again did not diminish the experience. I especially love the relationship Mel and David have, but the W.W. II episodes were not bad either. I just think it a real shame about Joe...

I'm going to read the second book of the series now. This should be entertaining.

Uhhh not for me! There was a lot happening here...

I really enjoyed the majority of this book. I am not a fan of YA romance and this book was supposed to be an adult book. It is, mainly, but there is a parallel story that features Mallory, Tom's niece, that I really could have done without. If I wanted to read about the angst of an 18 year old I would have looked for that. I was only interested in the main story of Tom & Kelly, and the past between Joe & Charles. It was slightly irritating that I felt that Mallory's storyline was wedged in between the story that I was actually interested in reading. This little irritant sucked because I REALLY enjoyed the main story so I'll most definitely be reading more from Brockmann. I am just hoping the teenagers won't be making further appearances. Full review to come.

Tom Paoletti was the town screw-up in Baldwin Bridge MA. Kelly Ashton was the daughter of the town's leading citizen. After surviving a horrendous IED explosion in Iraq, Tom is back in Baldwin Bridge to recuperate; Kelly has returned to look after her dying father. Joe Paoletti and Charles Ashton were best friends for 60 years. Now Charles is dying and Joe wants the world to know what a hero he was in France; Charles hates the thought, so they are fighting just at the time when they should be drawing together to say farewell to each other. Tom sees an international terrorist at the local Home Depot, or did he? Is his brain injury causing him to hallucinate? His commanding officers seem to think so. But with the help of his niece and her boyfriend and some of his other SEAL Team 16 members, Tom, Kelly, Joe and Charles must save Baldwin Bridge during the 55th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion. A lot of romance with some entertaining dialog.

First time I have read Brockmann, although I have been purchasing her books for the library for years. She did what I asked - Brockmann and her storyline and interesting characters distracted me on my trip home from New Orleans. She even kept me from obsessing over the election.

I recommend Brockmann to any romance reader who likes contemporary romance with a bit of danger thrown in.

I read this book about a year and a half before I read the others. It was a decent book, don't get me wrong, but I'm just not that into romances, and while I did like the suspense in the book, it wasn't really enough to win me over. I should probably reread it since I've now read the entire series and really enjoyed it. But basically, this is the first book in the series and it shows.

really 3.5⭐️ rounded up... thanks for the distraction read, noelle, but i don’t think i could finish another one of these if i tried

A perfectly fine story marred by straight sex.

The writing is superior. The characters seem fleshed out enough to me, the main ones anyway, but in the end I can't say I cared all that much for the entire experience. I had to skip the entirety of the Mallory/David storyline because I don't like teenagers and I'm especially prejudiced against straight ones.

I won't pursue the series but only because I don't ever want to read about men sexing up women. Too depressing.
