This is a great book if you're looking for 40 pages of adventure embedded within 350 pages of romantic relationships that develop at a snail's pace.
This felt WAY longer than 392 pages. I read it in prep for a professional presentation, and while I absolutely understand the appeal of romantic suspense, it's for sure not my subgenre.
Great story, both in terms of the romance and in terms of the family relationships across several generations. I loved the way Brockman wrote the character of Tom, in particular the way he responded to both his uncle and to Charles. The parallel World War II story was engaging, although That, plus the side story of a child that Kelly was caring for as a pediatrician -- both of which made me outright cry at times -- brought this down from a 5-star for me. I want my happily ever afters with no strings attached. But other than that, I had no complaints, and I can't wait to read my next Suzanne Brockman.
Spoiler
much more tragic than I tend to like overall.
First time I have read Brockmann, although I have been purchasing her books for the library for years. She did what I asked - Brockmann and her storyline and interesting characters distracted me on my trip home from New Orleans. She even kept me from obsessing over the election.
I recommend Brockmann to any romance reader who likes contemporary romance with a bit of danger thrown in.

There was a lot going on in the book, but none of it really struck a chord with me. Would be two stars, but I appreciate it for being a decent read.
I actually really liked how Kelly's Dad acted in the end. It was fitting.
With so many storylines juggling around, the title also takes on a deeper meaning, to apply to many of the characters.

The Unsung Hero is the first title in the Troubleshooters series written by Suzanne Brockmann.
What to expect:
*Navy SEAL x Doctor
*Second chance
*Alternating timelines
Kelly is a doctor returning to her hometown to visit her sick father. While there she runs into her high school crush Tom, who is home recovering from an accident received while serving as a Navy SEAL.
Throughout the book there are other storylines happening, including flashbacks from when the main characters fathers served in WWI. There are other SEALS, a couple of teens finding their own way in the world, and a bad guy that wants to put an end to a hometown celebration.
No OW/OM drama, no third act breakup, ends with a HFN. Published in 2003, some of the language is very dated but overall, a cute romance.

I got an email about [b: Ready to Roll|23688703|Ready To Roll (Roll of the Dice, #2)|Melanie Greene|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1417808447s/23688703.jpg|42790904] is available on Amazon, which got me in the mood to re-read this series.
It's so much fun going back and reading Tom & Kelly, Charles/Joe, and Mallory & David. Team Sixteen is introduced in this book.
- Lt. (j.g.) Casper “Jazz” Jacquette
– Ensign Roger “Sam” Starrett
– Ensign John Nilsson
– Petty Officer Mark Jenkins
– Petty Officer Ken “WildCard” Karmody
– Petty Officer Jay Lopez
– Petty Officer Frank O’Leary
I love how the WWII story weaves through the current storylines. Looks like I'll be re-reading this series again :)

I enjoyed all of the side characters more than I did Tom and Kelly. Tom rubbed me the wrong way for 75% of the book and Kelly was really bad at communicating.
