Entertaining, somewhat informative, occasionally quite funny, and works quite well as a character study and as a depiction of broken homes and wild youth. It's sometimes hard to get into, but the book's success is that you know he'll get caught eventually, but still somehow makes you want him to evade capture at the same time, even though what he is doing is wrong...oh, and some of his escapes are just unbelievable, so unbelievable that you'd have to look them up afterwards to make sure he isn't exaggerating, only to realise that he is actually not fully stating how amazing his escape actually was. Now that's the beauty of a true story
A fun read. Of course when the autobiography I from a conman, how much can you trust to be true? Regardless, it is fun and exciting.
4.5 stars This book was an absolute delight to read from beginning to end. It is a book I've pushed as a librarian to students in book talks but never had the chance to read. . . .mostly because it's always been checked out. Even if you have seen and loved the movie, do yourself a favor and pick up this book. You really get inside the head and the life of Frank Abagnale Jr. and what motivated him to because one of the world's greatest conman before he turned 21. What was amazing about him is how incredibly smart and resourceful he was from a young age. The librarian in my LOVES how much he was willing to conduct good research for his cons. If you want a book that will entertain you from beginning to end, this is it. I'm excited to continue to push this books with teenagers now that I have read it. It is absolutely perfect for a reluctant reader or an adult who lives to read.
This book is an absolute adventure, and I loved every second of being a part of Frank Abagnale's journey from the discovery to the execution to the finale. Also a great reminder that the world is much much bigger than it seems and that confidence goes a long way.
As enjoyable as the movie. Quite audacious and you seem to get the feeling he never did serve all the time he should have done. An engaging and swift read.
Good story. Got very detailed about how he scammed and that was a little dry, but the capers were fun to hear.
It was better than the movie. My only compliant was the ending. I wish it would have gone into more detail. What an amazing true story.
I've seen the movie before but hadn't read the book. WOW! What a fun ride that was. I know it's his real life, but it reads so much like a thriller. There are times you're wondering how he got away with it all, how he survived some situations.
So much of what made his successful was luck, but he was also clever and took the time to learn and ask questions.
There are definitely some dark parts of his story, so be aware of that.

If you Google Frank Abagnale, you’ll find that most of this ‘autobiography’ is untrue. However, I think Abagnale genuinely believes that these things happened. He mentions in the book that he has an incredible imagination, and I think this is one of the few truths in the book. He lives in his own imaginary world.
Another hilarious point is that he keeps going on about how handsome he was - Google images showed that this is also due to his imagination.
TW: There is quite a lot of sexism throughout the book (think Mad Men) - it’s important to remember that times were different and rampant sexism was normal back then.
Just take it as fictional and enjoy the ride. It’s an entertaining read.
