Such a cute novel! Every aspect of it was predictable, but it was such a fun read!
After thinking about it, I decided to give this book one 1 star with a heavy heart.
Kasie West had been an important author in my reading journey, primarily because my high school days consisted of most of her books and I probably wouldn’t have loved the romance genre as much if it wasn’t for her. I remember thinking how her books were the perfect fluff books? There isn’t much substance but it gets your heart gooey anyway and personally, I don’t really care as long as it’s making me feel something. Although I think I am slowly outgrowing her books, this particular one really just reminds me of that fact.
I think Sunkissed by far is the worst book I read from her. The characters are so flat, the story is so predictable, and the romance isn’t really that swoon-worthy. I can’t think of any redeeming quality and the entire book just came across as inauthentic. I have a hard time getting into this particularly because of the narration, I can't exactly put my finger on it but something about it grinds my gears. I think the most I could get from this that was remotely positive was it’s very reminiscent of her previous books but even then, that made me think how her other books were way better than this one. The story is also easily forgettable, I pretty much forgot everything by now- but I do remember hating most of the developments. Overall, obviously not my favorite Kasie West book- but will I be looking out for her next one? Abso-fluffy-lute-ly!
PS.
I’m really hesitant to review this book and thought of just disregarding the review altogether, but I promised an RTC and I’m clearing my RTCs so here we are. I actually did change my ratings for this many times, number 1 because I hate hating books and my ratings dropping- I mean, who loves reading bad books anyway? and 2, I just wanted a fresh trip to memory lane but I think yeah, this is a fresh reminder I’m a bitter coffee-deficit college student now.

It was a classic West story, a quick and cute romance. Avery and her family stay the summer at this camp where Avery meets one of the boys on staff, Brooks. Avery and Brooks have to keep their, at first, friendship underwraps so he doesn't get fired for mingling with a guest. The two end up performing in a band together and the story evolves from there.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. When I start a Kasie West book I have high expectations. I know that isn't the best way to go into a new book, but I can't help it, it's Kasie. Her books usually just get me so I always expect to have that experience. So when I picked up Sunkissed my expectation were off the charts...and man did Kasie deliver. Sunkissed hit my soul in all the right places.
Sunkissed's main character, Avery, has just been betrayed by her best friend. She is ready for the summer of her life where everything falls into place. That is until her parents inform her they are going to a remote family resort, a resort with limited internet access and she will be sharing a room with her sister. But as soon as they arrive Avery finds herself drawn to the band and to Brooks especially. Too bad staff is not allowed to fraternize with the guests. Well at least not get caught doing so.
It is safe to say that I devoured Sunkissed. Once I started I couldn't read it fast enough. I loved everything about the book. I loved the Dirty Dancing vibe, I loved the relationship with Avery and Brooks, I loved the setting, I loved the whole thing. Avery was a character I was able to really connect to and understand. She did everything in her power to be the easy, laid back one and all that accomplished was her never getting to be herself. She agreed to things just to be agreeable and that wasn't fair to her. Watching as she slowly realized this and started to step outside her comfort zone was a highlight. She had her Baby moment and she was tired of living in the shadows and being the "good one".
Kasie West once again lived up to my expectations. And if I'm honest she may have destroyed them with Sunkissed. The whole book hit the right note and just left me wishing it was longer than it was. I have a handle of books by Kasie that I love and this just jumped right up there for a tie at the top. Definitely buy a copy of this gem!

Yeah well... no.
I need to say that I used to love Kasie West's books but this one is just lot's of drama and two overly dramatic people over nothing. Probably trying again some other time
