I think the podcast's style translated well to novel-format! As a novel the writers have the opportunity to tell a longer, more involved plot, which I like. I also like that the story didn't focus on Cecil or Carlos-- we hear from them every week! so I appreciate that this is an opportunity to get perspective on life in Night Vale from other characters.
I liked how the plot wrapped up several mysteries that have been reoccurring in Night Vale for quite some time now-- it's always hard to tell in the podcasts if an absurd happenstance (like the Man in the Tan Jacket) is a recurring joke that's just part of background life in Night Vale or if it will eventually be explained, which is a quality I really enjoy about Welcome to Night Vale generally. I will say for a single novel companion to the hundreds of hours of podcasts, I wanted it to be a bigger game changer-- higher highs, lower lows-- but oh well. My favorite aspect of the plot is that there's another city that has been "infected" more or less with strange happenings similar to Night Vale, but because they have recent memory of being a "normal" town, they absolutely CANNOT deal with what in Night Vale would barely register as important. It gave me greater admiration for the "keep calm and carry on" type nature of Night Vale citizens-- "life is weird, just roll with it" seems to be their motto.
I also found myself constantly highlighting passages-- the combination of absurd playfulness and existential truth is so fresh and unique to WTNV, and this book didn't skimp on the clever strangeness of the podcast.
Overall, if you enjoy the podcast, you will enjoy this novel.

For a very specific type of mood and humor. There were a few intriguing lines that I enjoyed, like how the government wasn't literally transparent enough.

Welcome to Night Vale reads very, very similarly to the podcast. If you don’t like the weird, convoluted story telling of the podcast, I’d be shocked if you enjoy the book. However, if you love the podcast, you’ll probably have a great time, learning more about characters you don’t see much of otherwise.
The story is a little more focused than some parts of the podcast, but it is still told in a way that leaves you confused in the moment and yet eager to continue. As per normal, you’re left with more questions than answers about Night Vale as a whole, but I don’t think anyone really expects answers at this point.

O livro mais estranho que já li na vida. Uma narrativa críptica, bizarra, engraçada e algumas vezes levemente irritante, cada personagem na cidade de Night Vale possui um nível de excentricidade e carisma tão grandes que torna esse universo confuso bem gostoso de visitar. O mistério central é genuinamente intrigante, e mesmo nas partes mais cansativas, principalmente no terço inicial, é ele que faz com que a história continue a progredir. Quando o ritmo engata, tudo flui de maneira hipnótica até a conclusão, que mesmo sendo anticlimática, ainda é bem satisfatória. Gostei bastante.
