3.5 stars. This book was SO WEIRD. For the first five or so chapters I kept saying "I can't read this. It's too weird. I'll finish this chapter and give up." And then I would inevitably find myself halfway through the NEXT chapter before I knew it! Because as quirky and unconventional as it was, it had a ton of heart and a lot of dry humor. And those two things kept me going. Not sure I'd recommend it due to the oddity but, ultimately, I enjoyed it.

Second time reading, first time in audiobook form. Cecil can read me a story any day of the week. I’ll always love this absurd little town.
Maybe it's only for fans of the podcast. I only listened to maybe two episodes before reading this. Everything is just described so weirdly, and at first it's funny and fascinating. But after the first chapter it just got tiring for me.
WTNV is the most bizarre book I've ever read...that kept precisely commentating on everyday life, exposing how strange and arbitrary are the societal norms we often cling to. It is magical-hilarious-touching-creepy-wise. I honestly can't think of a better way to describe Night Vale than by quoting a couple of its residents:
"It's superweird," said Josh.
"The best kind of weird," said Jackie.
"It's superweird," said Josh.
"The best kind of weird," said Jackie.
So damn good! Loved this book so much, which makes me so happy since I’m a huge fan of the podcast. I’m so excited to read their next book, ‘It Devours’!
As a creature known as a librarian I can assure you that this is a painfully accurate portrayal of books, reading, libraries, and librarians.
