Absolutely phenomenal. I haven't enjoyed a book like this in a long time. Someone described the writing as "whimsical" and "clever" and I couldn't agree more with both. Night Vale is a strange town with strange occurences that may take some getting used to, but once you're there, the book is a fun ride that I didn't want to stop. Rarely do I feel like books end well, but Fink and Cranor nailed it. 10/10 would read again.
On a second read, this one gets five stars.
I can't really imagine this would be very good if you don't listen to the WTNV podcast. I was doing a re-listen of WTNV and came to the point in which the book was published. It's a really great read in the context of the surrounding episodes as well. Audiobook is fantastic, of course.

very fun listen! nightvale shines at making the surreal normal, best read as an audiobook rather than physically, you can definitely tell the authors come from a podcast background and I think it would’ve been a little dry in physical format

I really love the podcast of the same name, and wanted to feel the same about the novel...but for the most part I really wasn't feeling this. Possibly if I'd listened to the audiobook it might have gone better, what with me missing hearing Cecil's voice in here.
It felt like there wasn't really enough plot to justify how long this ended up being. Plus, all the sly little jokes about how strange Night Vale is supposed to be really felt like it got in the way of things at times. It works great in the podcast, but so often it felt like maybe the plot would finally take off only to get bogged down in "Hey, remember how quirky Night Vale is? Let's remind you."
Definitely disappointing for me.

I came to the Night Vale universe late, listening to a handful of episodes and a live show in 2017 and starting this book, then not really having the time or attention to devote to it. I started back this month (a year later!) with the podcast and the book and have absolutely loved it all! I am so invested in this town and these stories.

Honestly, I skimmed through about the last quarter of this book. I was charmed by Night Vale’s weirdness, as always. Particularly the pervasive (and deserved) phobia of libraries/librarians. But the characters lost their charm after a few chapters, and the plot was super predictable, even if the town itself wasn’t. In short I was unimpressed. That’s probably the best way to put it.
I wanted to really like this, as the podcasts are phenomenal. For me, it just did not work as well in book form.
