Rick Riordan could write a menu and I would be first in line! Exceptional. Each book gets better and better.

It seemed like there is a different writing style in this series. Not just silly encounter to silly encounter. instead, it felt more like characters who related to one another more naturally. still unclear why the main character is still a white male, though. The intro of Alex and the continued development of Samirah, and the insight into Hearthstone's family life culminated to a strangely compelling story. It also helps that Magnus is a really nice person. Samirah is an interesting character as well. Alex is a really new type of character for this series as well as for this genre of YA adventure literature. It's always really hard to picture Alex without thinking of an anime character. I guess that's just what comes to mind when I think of gender fluidity. Everyone in the party is useful enough not to annoy me, which is a new thing for this series.

I do think it will be a mistake to bring Percy into it. Ugh. Percy.

Soooooo good!!!

An amazing sequel to Sword of Summer. The representation in this book makes me appreciate Riordan as a writer even more. And that ending?! I cannot wait to read about * and * interacting.

Slightly hard to judge because this was my first full length e book and also I'm 24. There are definitely aspects I would have liked more when I was 14, but I still found it engaging and fun to read. I'm slightly unsure about the accuracy of some of the representations of Islam, but that may be because I keep getting on haram police TikTok and this book takes place in a world where the Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian gods are all real so perhaps some things would differ!

"This is why you should go to college, kids––so when you grow up you do not have to take a job as a magical goat."

I FINALLY DID IT. I have conquered the beast. I have finally finished the second Magnus Chase after six long months of attempted reading. Boy oh boy, was this a ride.

New discovery about middle grade books: I need to be in the mood and have the time to really lose myself in the story. If I'm not in the mood and/or are stressed/busy, middle grade books do not work for me. Like, at all. Which is exactly why I couldn't finish this until I was firmly in a beach town on an island for vacation with my senior year behind me and all my moving boxes unpacked.

That being said, I'm having a lot of fun with this series. Once again, props to Rick for all this diversity. Our ever growing cast of characters has expanded to include a gender fluid and transgender (I think I got that identification right) character named Alex who is rapidly surpassing all of the other characters for my favorite. Alex, on top of being a really important character for young kids to witness and get to know, is just a lot of fun. I really loved following this whole crew on all their crazy adventures trying to find Thor's hammer and thwart Loki's nefarious plans.

As for the ending:
SpoilerRick the troll strikes again... You had me so sure Percy would be in THIS book and now you're telling me I have to wait for the next one?! The only good part about taking so long to read this is that I only have to wait a few months now for book 3...
