I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between the MCs but they just seemed to have so many elements thrown it felt a little odd in the pacing. Overall a cute romance.

Nic is a gay transman new to L.A. who's newly out and trying to fly under the radar. Kyle is an out and proud gay cisman who works for an HIV charity and has a son. Kyle is only looking for one-night stands because he's focused on his son. But when he meets Nic and has a great night with him, he realizes he wants to know him more. And Nic finally learns to accept himself after he spends more time with Kyle. It's a love story that was just so much fun to read. Seeing Nic come out of his shell and learn to be the version of himself he wants to be was so sweet. And there's a scene with Kyle helping Nic realize he can embrace some femininity and still be a man that was so beautiful to read. It's definitely a romance that has stuck with me.

I loved Kyle and Nic’s relationship. Kyle had to learn that he won’t always send a guy running with his outwardness and baggage. He sees that in Nic is someone to hold onto for the long haul. I have enjoyed a few transgender stories and this one is no different. I am glad that Nic is able to find support from those around him in his new life.

I received this story in exhange for an honest review.

Glad I read this after reading [b:Freak|33884702|Freak (Plus #2)|E. Davies|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1484672356s/33884702.jpg|54846025], it was just as good and it didn't matter that I read them out of order. It was interesting to read what Nic had gone through to become the person that he felt comfortable with. It must have been hard without someone like Kyle to support him through the changes so I am pleased that they found each other.

I wanted to like this book becuase I've enjoyed the books I have read by E. Davies but sadly it was a miss for me. While I liked Nic, I felt Kylie was a bit pushy and his "issues" with not wanting a relationship fell flat. Overall while I read the whole thing I was a bit bored and wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

Side Note: I have only read a few books with Trans characters and and I am far from a knowledgable on the matter but for some reason while reading this it didn't seem accurate. There was a lot of informati0n from Nics character about transitions for a female to male that didn't line up with what I knew on the subject and after reading a review from a Trans reviewer my instincts were right. I highly recommend reading their review

This is a great start to what should be a great series. The writing is good…a bit different for me and a couple of times I had to re-read a sentence or two for clarification. The story was really interesting and unlike anything else I’ve read.

This is only my second book with a trans MC. Nic is post-transition and the other book I read was mid-transition. He still struggles with self-confidence and tries to hide himself from the world. Something I would normally find insignificant – wearing only neutral colored clothing – means something to Nic, as does having the confidence to wear bright or non-neutral colors. He is shy and quiet, happy to just sit back and observe life instead of living right in the middle of it. He is adorably sweet and has a lot of love to give to the right person.

Kyle is Nic’s exact opposite. He is flamboyant and boisterous. He seems to be unafraid of anything and everything and living life to the fullest. Unfortunately, some of that is an act. He’s been made to feel like he’s too much for most people and as such is afraid to be open with anyone or let anyone get too close. He is actually pretty perfect for Nic when he lets his guard down. They truly bring out the best in each other.

River’s story is coming up next and that stands to be even better than this story. River is a bit of a character himself! I hope we get more of Nic and Kyle in that book also as we’re not quite done with them yet 

Definitely a great read with lots of emotions that I highly recommend! OH, and I LOVE the cover!

I say this in every E. Davies review and I will keep saying it. Every book is like a comfort. You always know you are going to gain a new comfort read from an E. Davies book and I will continue to make my way through every single one because I need those comfort reads in my life.

Kyle and Nick was a lovely story, that did have it drama with some miscommunication and personal trauma. Kyle’s work goes up in flames and when he needs someone to turn to to help him heal he has Nick by his side, even though they have a misunderstanding about their differences in financial standings Nick steps up and helps Kyle heal.

Honestly, I sort of have an idea on who was behind the fire, but it was interesting until the end. Really enjoyable.

*Listener Note: I received a free copy of this audiobook through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

I can't decide between 3 or 4 stars. It shouldn't be judged by very old reviews where I gave more stars more easily.
I liked the book, I had some issues with it... full review to come later.

This was a fabulous book. I am a big fan of E. Davies' writing style, and he does not disappoint with this book. This was a great story about a man, Nic, who is transgender. Nic is working to overcome some of his fears about entering a relationship and reconciling his desire to be a bit feminine while still appearing masculine and not be mistaken for a woman. We also get a glimpse at the struggles in Nic's mind as he considers the phalloplasty surgery. Nic meets Kyle who is a bit more flamboyant and sure of himself on the outside, but a bit more reserved and careful on the inside. He has a child, and his son is his priority. I loved watching these guys overcome some of their barriers in order to get together, and then continue to grow together as a couple. Loved this book.

Edited to add audiobook review--So I listened to this, and the book remains amazing, even after almost 2 years have passed. I loved the characters and their journey together. The narration wasn't my favorite of all the books, but it was still good. Joel Leslie portrayed the voices a bit breathy, but I can see it fitting with the characters.

I'm voluntarily reviewing a free advance reader copy I received from the author.
