This book was so personal and impactful, every single page felt important and relevant to the overall point Gansworth was making. I really enjoyed his YA novel "If I Ever Get Out of Here" earlier this year, and knew I needed to see what else he had written. I also decided to listen to this on audiobook because I saw that the author himself is the narrator, and he does such a wonderful job on it! The struggle with identity and personal morals is so compelling and thought evoking, I would highly recommend this to all readers!

It was for school and I skimmed it a bit. We are done reading it in class, so I’m done reading it too.

A memoir-in-verse written by a native America writer and artist. I’ve never read anything like it. I wish I had listened to it because sometimes I feel like poetry is meant to be heard, but I would’ve missed out on the original art and photos scattered throughout. The book begins with the stories of his grandparents attending a government school in Pennsylvania and follows up with the consequences of those decisions then unspools into his life and upbringing as an Onondaga member living among Tuscaroras in upstate New York. Beautifully written!
