Ive never been so angry at fictional characters in my entire life and lowkey this book was a waste of a really good premise. I do not give a flying fuck about this romance specifically when it doesnt end in murder. Wheres the drama? Daphne is my favorite character purely because of how awful she is it really represents what i wanted this book to be. Although i will say this book was extremely fun to read even though i hated it so truly i reccomend this to anyone who loves stupid romance.

4.5 stars | my crying heart is here for you, Bee
i picked this book up 'cause i am currently in my travel-down-the-youtube-rabbithole-about-the-british-royal-family phase, and i find it fitting to read.
you know, real-life monarchs = let's read about fantasy monarchs, that kind of thing.
well, american royals grabbed hold of me and did not let go!
it was a lighthearted and fun read, with cute love triangles and cliche drama. though, for some, it may not be their cup of tea , i mean coffee.
the characters were the ones that made me enjoy this book the most. they are all so beautifully flawed, and interwoven with each other. and i can't remember how many times, i screamed at the characters for making those choices

This book was fine but I know it wasn’t written for me. I’m a 52 year old woman. My 14 y.o. daughter read it at the same time and I think she probably liked it a lot more than me. I wish we had chapters written by Jefferson. I also can’t stand the Daphne character (which I’m sure is the point). But my biggest struggle was the Beatrice storyline. I hate how she can’t be her own person or really make her own choices. But I guess that’s the way it would be? Another frustration is the lack of communication between the royal family - between the parents, the siblings (except between Sam and Jeff who communicate the best) and between the parents and the siblings.

I loved this fun adventure into a "what if" in the history of the United States. What if General George Washington had said yes when they asked him to be our King rather than create a democracy and become our President. What would that look like in the context of America as we know it today.
This book read a lot like The Selection series, which I also really enjoyed. Fun characters and real life decisions about first love and heartache mixed with the obligations that come with being royal and the expectations to date and marry other royals. I admit I did cry once or twice in the book and felt connected to the characters. I am looking forward to the sequel. Such a fun easy read.
