I honestly have no idea why I enjoyed this book so much but I did!! I enjoyed all the characters and that I could tell them all apart while they were still interwoven and the concept overall was intriguing. I’m pumped for the next book!!

This series is fun so far! I like the universe and the world building of “what if America had a monarchy” and diving into the relationships of the royals. I was really confused by all the characters at the beginning and honestly needed a character map to keep all of the narrators straight, but eventually caught on to who was who. Also I HATE Daphne and I genuinely can’t wait to see what form of ‘redemption’ she gets in a later book because she suckssss. Definitely agree that this fits the definition of YA chick lit and I like it.

1. Beatrice.
2. Nina.
3. Connor
4. Daphne.
5. Jefferson.
6. Samantha

Good but didn't like how the ending left everything up in the air.

School Librarian Review:
Kids might love this book. If they go in expecting it to be a teen romance, rather than anything with any hint of historical value. It is simple and fluffy, and the characters would probably intrigue middle or high school readers.

A teacher might be able to use this as a jumping-off point for how fragile our democracy is, or how the US is unique...when it could just as easily be just the same as any other monarchy.

I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but those who are the target audience might love it.

Personal Review:
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I hoped I would. The characters were fine, but spoiled - which is the whole point, but it still made it hard for me to care about them. The Idea that Washington chose to accept the crown is a very interesting idea for alternate history. I loved the idea, but then it became a lot like every other monarchy and so...why? I was hoping that the American monarchy would become something more interesting than just following all the old rules.

So, I guess this is just a teen romance set against the backdrop of a Royal Family, which happens to be America. This was not as interesting as I had hoped.

Also, I didn't realize this was a series...and the ending was infuriating!

Not a single character got what they wanted...everyone's life sucks and there is no joy anywhere.

This is a reread so it’s always good obviously! I don’t come to this book for intense story lines and plot just feel good cute!

DNT at 18%. Boring and juvenile.

Good would like their to be more at the end,
like it is very predictable with everything but would love to hear like more about what happens after the king dies in this book without reading any sequels, Conor annoys me. Teddy I would like to hear more about his family because we all know something is going on there, sam is fun but would like to hear more about her and Beatrice's relationship. Nina and Jeff 🩷 but Jeff I hate/love, Daphne has good character development
