I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So, I read this book in Dutch last year (absolutely loved it btw), sadly, the library I got this one from (and the only one of my libraries who had it) only had the first part. So I was beyond excited when I spotted this book on Netgalley and it was the WHOLE book. I just had to have it despite half the story still being quite fresh on my mind. It does help that this one is in English, while the one I read was in Dutch. Plus, there is like half of the book that is just NEW and from what I remember there will be quite some things happening given the ending of the first part and I am eager to see how things will get solved there.
This book is about an old man whose son and his wife adopt a tiny little girl from Peru after a devastating earthquake that took the lives of hundred-thousands of people. The old man is now a grandfather… but he isn’t too happy with it. But I know that he will love her eventually. It just takes a while and some cuteness from Qinaya to win her new grandfather’s heart. That is the first part, the second part is about the old man going to Peru. Why, you will have to read the book.
Next to the grandfather making peace with the fact he is now a grandfather and Qinaya winning his heart, we also see other parts in the life of this family. Like his fitness buddies or well, just his buddies given that they feast after a bit of exercising.

'The Adoption' by Zidrou with art by Arno Monin is a graphic novel about an adopted little girl that melts her grandparents hearts.

Gabriel is set in his ways with outings with his friends and loving his retired life. He warms slowly to the little girl. When it turns out that the girl may have been fraudulently adopted, it shatters everything.
I liked this story of a grouchy old man and a cute little girl. The story is not cut and dried and takes some interesting turns. The art is pretty good too.

I really liked this. It’s not as drippy as the cover suggests and as really well written. Loved the French setting and the art is really incredible. Highly recommended.

This was a very cute and very important graphic novel and I loves the story but the art style was just not for me. I am sure many of you will really like this but sadly it just wasn't for me.

Before reading this, I thought this will be a journey how a family adopts and welcome a child into the family. Without giving anything away, I’m heartbroken and sad; and how the story changed.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it explored a great part of being a grandparent and the desperateness of trying to be a parent with a couple that is infertile. The twist was something I totally did not see coming.
The art was beautiful and the exploration of family and fatherhood was amazing.

They threw a big twist in about halfway through but then barely explained how it happened. We got like a short one sentence “explanation” towards the end that still left me with a lot of questions. Would’ve liked some more details on it, it’s a lot of information to just leave out
