It has been a while since I've read a book by Maura, but this pulled me instantly. I've been working on a blog series and this book came to mind and got something totally unexpected. Just know the MCs backgrounds, I knew I was in for a ride that would be hurting. And it absolutely did!
Everything and everyone was written so well! The sibling's best friend is one of my least favorite tropes, but the way that Ezra handled the truth and just knew from the beginning. It was such a mature and empathetic approach as her brother instead of the normal, "don't hurt my sister" ... etc. etc. He was very refreshing to read about.
All I have to say is that I don't envy the positions that Serenity and Archer were in. I commend Serenity soooo much for what she did even though it was repeatedly breaking her heart. But I honestly would have done the same thing, and I think that shows how resilient she truly is.
Archer, Archer. Having your heart pulled in many places and not wanting anyone to get hurt. I can't even imagine being in the position that he was in. But I think he navigated as well as he could.
So much love for these characters and their story! This easily goes down as a favorite for the year.
Thank you to the publisher and Edelweiss for the reader's copy!

cute story
Definitely didn’t expect certain plot twists but it was a really cute story. Like always Cat knows what she is doing♥️

I was expecting a lot from this book, considering I enjoyed all of the recent releases from The Windsors series and some parts of this book, especially the beginning, were nice. Archer & Serenity definitely had chemistry but their relationship progressed way too quickly. Also, everything went downhill in the second half. Although, it caused some angst, I just started to lose interest after that. I was so excited to read this book, but I could feel that something was lacking in it and I was also expecting to see more of Ezra and a glimpse of his story but even that wasn't mentioned which was disappointing tbh. I'd give this book 2.5 stars, just because of the Zane & Celeste crumbs, Ezra's personality, the jealousy scenes and the few extravagant things that Archer did for Serenity in the beginning
About 70% into the book, the “twist” took me out of the whole book and the relationship. Made me not care what happens to either character, and wish the author would have gone a different route that could have retreated the same tension.

This was really cute but I wish there was a little more about Tyra and Serenity’s friendship. With more than halfway through the book, I kept thinking about why Tyra was also important to Serenity. Otherwise, Archer is such a sweetheart and I’m glad Serenity was able to live her dreams in the end.
