I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved the main characters. Aria and Lucien complemented each other very well. This is the first book in a duology and it ends on a cliffhanger, so if you need the second book ASAP, you might want to wait until the second one comes out. If you're okay with waiting, I highly suggest you make this your next read. I love a good secret society and I hope the second book shows us more of that. There is some cat and mouse and stalking but the author did a really good job of making it stand out from other takes on this trope. The spice was well written and didn't overshadow or take over the plot. I loved how Aria became more confident throughout the book, eventually leading to some steamy scenes once she got caught by Lucien. There are some heavy moments but the trigger warnings cover everything dark in the book. This would be a good read for someone who has an interest in dark romance but doesn't want to dive off the deep end and start with The Ritual or Haunting Adeline. It's a perfect book to test the waters for dark romance. I am glad I got the chance to read this and I am looking forward to the second book.

The Hunter, Lucian, is sent by The Order to hunt a person who, according to The Order, squandered their potential. The Fawn, Aria, turned down prestigious college scholarships to take care of her family. The objective of The Hunt is not to get caught through seven hunts or be killed on the final hunt.
I like the twist on the stalking/ primal play. The author took two common tropes and creatively combined them into a fairly unique storyline. Aria knows she is being hunted and has to choose what moves she'll make to avoid Lucian. It's not primal play in the sense of getting dropped off at the edge of the woods and run. The hunting hound, if you will, is relatively unlimited. There are also rules to the hunts that must be followed by both parties.
Now, let's talk about Aria and Lucian. Aria is a sweet and quiet librarian who doesn't go out much. Lucian is a sexy AF killer. Perfect match, right? But neither of these characters is what they seem on the surface. Aria is smart and clever. Lucian has a bit of a soft spot for his Fawn. And together these two are explosive and HOT.
Run Little Fawn is the first book in a duet, so be aware that there will be a cliffhanger. I'm not sure that a cliffhanger was really necessary. I feel like this could have just been one book, but I respect the author's decision to prolong the drama. I'm a little peeved that I have to wait for book two. Even though I'm sure Aria and Lucian will get an HEA, I'm not SURE they'll get one.

This was a very fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat, but also the dynamic between the Fawn and the Hunter is superbly written.

Firstly, I love dark romance so when I saw that this one had a hunter/prey dynamic I was immediately intrigued. There’s definitely an art to this genre where you want it to be dark but you also want it to be hopeful and kinda romantic, this author nails it. I’m going to lay awake thinking about what happens next and I can’t wait for the second part of the story!

This is a solid debut and there were plenty of things I enjoyed beyond the initial premise; the bait and switch at the club, the tension between the lead characters and Lucien's private agenda were all elements which kept me engaged. Aria is also very likeable; she's smart and wary, and the ways she tries to give Lucien the slip show she has the potential to be a worthy adversary for him.
However, I also felt that the story was a little rushed once the hunts started after the initial build up. There are seven hunts to get through which can last up to seven days so I appreciate that this has to be relatively fast paced but I wanted to know more about the meaning behind all of it. There is some exposition when Aria is told she is the prey and why she was chosen but I did feel like I was missing some backstory as to what this society's end game was. I have the second half of the duet on my TBR so hopefully there will be some more answers in book two.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

Run Little Fawn drew me in with some of the best tropes a dark romance can have. You can expect: secret society, primal play, a touch of knife play, a morally gray MMC, and stalking. There are some other tropes that have a bit of a role in the book, but those are ones that stood out the most to me. When you stack up a lot of tropes in a single book, you have to be careful to not come across as repetitive or just dry while only focusing on making it fit into the genre. In the case of this book, some of the uses of the tropes seemed like they were just tossed in to make the book fit as a dark romance book.
Aria, the FMC, has a quiet life. She gave up her dreams to take care of her family which most people would see as something wise, but not the secret society that our Hunter is a part of. They see it as a weakness. Aria is anything but weak. Her character is well written, and has a back story that could be mapped out and utilized throughout the entire book. Sadly, I did not see that. I did not see her utilizing her intelligence as well as she could have been and as well as I was hoping for. She wasn’t dumb or a damsel in distress by any means, but she didn’t think outside of the box & had to learn from Lucien which just didn’t seem right to me. I feel like she deserved more depth.
Lucien, our MMC, is a morally gray man who is a part of a secret society but not for the reasons you may think. You’ll have to read the book to find out about that. He is smart, witty, charming, and all of the things that we swoon over morally gray MMCs for. His back story is explained later in the story and seems to play into why he is the way that he is fairly well. He doesn’t seem to be lacking in the department of being mapped out.
Run Little Fawn is a short novel, and it is a good read. It is definitely not the spiciest dark romance I’ve ever read, and if that’s what you’re looking for - this isn’t for you. There is a lot of repetition when it comes to talking about The Hunt, and at times The Hunt can seem dry and drawn out while somehow also seeming rushed. The rules for The Hunt when told to Aria are very detailed and captivating and I just didn’t feel like it was living up to what it was portrayed to be. I have been reading dark romance for a long time though, and I read very dark romance - so this being a debut dark romance means it has a grace window. It’s not poorly written, it’s not uninteresting.. It just seems like it might be best for someone who is just dipping their toes into the dark romance pool, and trying to get a feel for what they may like. Not necessarily someone who has already dove in and let themselves drown in the waters of dark romance.
I am very thankful to have been an ARC reader for this book, and I will more than likely be reading the second installment in the series to see how the story finalizes.

I'm always looking for new authors to read, and I stumbled across this one. Instantly, I love this authors writing style. There is a mysterious quality to it, like it's cloaked in darkness. Aria is a young woman who has sacrificed her future to take care of her family. I found her to be quite relatable.
This, of course, is seen as a weakness, so she has been targeted. Enter Lucian, the hunter. He's definitely got things to hide, and as soon as he was introduced, my mind started churning around all different kinds of questions.
There's something mysterious in the way this author writes, and I was drawn into this game of cat and mouse.
Lucian is tasked with hunting Aria, and at first, she doesn't understand. The further we get, the more the lines blur between these two, and the tension is thicker. Lucian might say he's helping to have a better opponent for the hunt, but somewhere along the way he developed feelings, despite him not feeling the same way normal people do, and he's giving her a fighting chance. Aria's character growth here is evident. She becomes stronger, more confident in the way she does things, and I'm really intrigued by how this is going to end.
I also feel like there's something more, something that we're missing that will reveal itself in book 2.
This was written really well and was a medium paced story that kept me intrigued. Really interesting storyline as well. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next in the next book!

I read this book in 3 hours!! I have been looking for something just like this. Possessiveness, primal, and the chase was just outstanding. I can't wait to read the second book!! Also, loved the FMC. That is the hardest for me when reading. She was relatable and I loved her development. Great read and will definitely be recommending!

The premise of the book is that there is a target, or prey, who our hunter calls "The Fawn." There are 7 hunts, each lasting up to 7 days. At the end of the 7th hunt, the fawn is hunted to the end.
This story is dark dark dark, and the female protagonist, who is the prey, has never been involved in darkness like this before. She's unassuming, she's stagnant, and she's not ready to be thrown into something like this. But, she steps up to the plate really quickly and is trying to figure out not only how to make it through the hunts, but how to outsmart the Hunter, and how to win.
I love reading about her thinking through her options and evolving every few days. She uses her intelligence to find ways to get under the Hunter's skin, and it's beginning to work.
I might be thinking too positively, but I'm hoping the Hunter is finding his humanity and maybe starting to embrace it?
The story ends on a cliff hanger in the middle of the game (right after the third hunt) and we are on a precipice here, which is edge of your seat gripping. Will the Hunter find his humanity and try to get out from the insanely cruel Order he's apart of, or will revenge win out and continue his spiral toward being unbearably cruel and heartless?
I can't wait to find out.
The writing in this book is good, the spice is *great* and the characters really compliment each other well. It's definitely a dark romantic thriller, and it has me on the edge of my seat wanting to find out more. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down.
