The Good Girl's Guide to Rakes: ★ ★ ★ ★ . 7 5

Eva Leigh (Last Chance Scoundrels, #1)

“There are so many blank pages ahead of us,” he said throatily. “We’ll fill them all with our adventures.”

There wasn't really anything I didn't like about this book, but it was just lacking that extra oomph that gives a book five stars. Nevertheless, this book is very cute & very sweet.

Kieran & Celeste's story is all about empowerment and advocacy for women's rights and independence with romance and sweetness to balance it all out. I adored both of them & even though there was third act conflict, it wasn't in between the couple & it was very well done.

Pretty intrigued by Finn, so I might continue with [b:How the Wallflower was Won|60017073|How the Wallflower was Won (Last Chance Scoundrels, #2)|Eva Leigh|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1644958315l/60017073._SY75_.jpg|94528763], especially now that Dom's story is coming soon! Such a heart-warming historical romance!

This book, so far, is one of the 2022 books I've read with a lot of highlighted quotes. Eva Leigh writes so beautifully. There's something incredibly poignant about how the author writes about living a life unbound. Our main characters, Kieran and Celeste, are endearing and well-meaning individuals bound in familial loyalty. I enjoy their conversations, and I really like the build-up of their relationship. Individually, I admire Celeste and her empathy. She also has a relatable struggle, trying to be your authentic self but couldn't for an image your family tries hard to uphold. The way she thinks is frank and witty. The same goes for Kieran. The only difference is how their family treats them. I also like how very astute they are of each other and other people, something they honed as they lead a life of deception.

Another thing I like about their relationship is how they communicate. It's emotional to read how both characters want the best for each other, even at the cost of their happiness. I enjoyed this book, and I recommend it!

Thank you, NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager, for the e-ARC.

January 2023 book club read. I’m not usually into historical romances, but this one was a pretty decent read.

The Good Girl's Guide to Rakes was one spicy historical romance. I went into this book pretty blind and didn't expect at all what I got, it was so much more! I do love a good love story between a notorious rake and innocent debutante. My first Eva Leigh book definitely didn't disappoint!

At first glance this is a pretty straighforward premise that has been done a lot in historical romance: Rake Kieran Ransome needs to find a wife but has a terrible reputation so he turns to the most proper woman he knows, which just happens to be his best friend's little sister, Celeste Kilburn. She agrees to introduce him to the right people in society during the day if he shows her the wild and scandalous side of London at night. And so a deal was made.

Like I said before, the premise of the story isn't one that hasn't been done before in this genre but I did really enjoy reading it. And what made all the difference were the two amazing main characters. I absolutely loved them whether they were together or had seperate scenes. The both of them saw each other so clearly and accepted them wholly, something what both of their families didn't really do.

And the romance! Ugh! So hot, sexy and dirty. Literally got nothing negative to say about that. This author absolutely knows how to write spicy, fan-yourself, scorching scenes. I could've continued reading about Celeste and Kieran for many more chapters!

I, for one, can't wait to start the next book which is about Finn Ransome (Kieran's brother) and I know it's going to include a marriage of convenience. My absolute favorite trope in historical romance. I'm so excited!

Thank you so much to Avon, NetGalley, and the author for this eARC copy.

Okay, I loved this. It has so many things that I love in a historical romance - rake, good girl, they're both intrigued by each other. Let's see where this goes!

Kieran knows how to have a good time, and Celeste wants to be part of that world. Kieran and Celeste strike up a deal where Kieran takes her to adventurous places she wants to go, and Celeste takes him to society events in hopes of finding him a suitable wife. I loved Celeste's disguise, but also really loved that she considered her disguise as a part of her. They have lots of fun together, but their families have expectations for them that drive them apart. Throw in a blackmailing earl, and we've got a recipe for some drama.

Kieran and Celeste are super hot together, and we get some very steamy scenes. I love Kieran's artsy/poet side, too. When I saw the author had posted an inspo pic of Aidan Turner for Kieran, I could not contain myself. Absolutely perfect.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read Finn's story next!
