Let me start by saying that I'm sure this is a good book and that I absolutely love Sara, Jeffrey, Will and Faith. I can't do this book, the racist, derogatory statements and verbiage used to describe black people is just too much even for me and I live in SE Texas! I'll just wait on the next installment of the Grant County or Will Trent series.

I'm a big Karin Slaughter fan, and have read all of the Grant County and Will Trent books. This is a new one (start of a series, maybe?) about Atlanta police in the mid-1970s. The two women at the center of the story are fighting to be seen and heard in the misogynistic, bigoted, and anti-Semitic (one of the women is also Jewish) workforce. There is a cop-killer on the loose, and the central story is the hunt for this killer. But to my mind the more interesting part was the well-drawn character study of the female cops bucking the system when females were just getting a foot in the door of a law enforcement career. As always, Karin Slaughter does a great job in character development. If this becomes a series, I'm ready for the next installment.
the level of bigotry and hatred was astonishing to me - this took place when I was in high school. Grim book but worth reading. Will be interesting if she rights another with these characters.
Loved it
Best book I've read this year. Refreshing flashback to the seventies that shows things weren't simpler once you scratch the surface, just different. Enjoyed seeing favorite characters in their younger years. Good story. Well written. AND for once I didn't solve it. Classic Slaughter not like the last few crap outs.

Connie loves this standalone book by Karin Slaughter, and requests, "More, please!''

This was a fantastic read and mystery, it was infuriating to see all the hardships that basically everyone who wasn't a cis white man faced in this time!

βItβs very important for your life to have meaning. Even on the days it makes you unhappy, you still need a purpose.β
β Karin Slaughter, Cop Town
Cop Town by Karin Slaughter is crime novel, centered around the Atlanta Police Department in the 1970's. The Atlanta Police department is going through some changes, and many of the older white men in the department are very resistant. They are for the first time getting officers from other races and genders. There are even female police officers that are also African American! Maggie and Kate are both female officers that are just trying to do their job without problems. When a cop killer known as "the shooter" starts killing people in Atlanta, all of the officers have to work together to catch the killer.
Cop Town was Karin Slaughter's first stand alone novel. I thought it was just okay, I wasn't really interested in the story line for most of the book. I was constantly reminding myself of the time frame that this took place, there is so much racisim and sexism in this book. I almost bailed at the beginning because of the racial slurs and the way they treated the women in this book. I had to work to remember that it was the 1970's and the world was a little different. Overall I gave this book 3 stars. I wasn't really impressed with the twist at the end and I think the ending was rushed. There were many questions left unanswered. This one was not Slaughter's best, but she does create excellent work. I am hoping my next by her will be the first in the Will Trent series!
