The incessant racial slurs and antisematic remarks are too much. I understand 1975 Atlanta had serious racial tension and people were “less PC” back then, but it is still too much. There are plenty of ways to communicate there are problems with racism, sexism, etc without an endless barrage of slurs. The characters can’t seem to say anything without a slur.

The story itself also isn’t moving and is quite dull and boring. While I hope the MC, a young female rookie, sticks the job out I don’t care enough about her (and hate so many other parts and aspects) that I’ll give up without knowing.

I usually like KS novels and if I hadn’t already had a good history with her this would definitely turn me off from reading any more in her library.

I listened to this book and throughly disliked it. There were no redeeming characters.

Good story, well told, seemed like a lot of swearing, might just have been the material used to make the story

Slaughter writes a compelling story here with outstanding scene construction. The pace has to slow a bit to add these rewarding directorial touches, but the end result is better for it. The core main characters are strong while the supporting cast can run together a bit. Even though the reveal at the end wasn't as stellar as I wanted it to be, the narrative was gripping and exciting to see unfold. I'm already looking forward to reading her again.
