This book was definitely not what I expected after finishing the third book on such a high note. You would think it would’ve been full of action after all the cliffhangers and many characters finally rising up. No, unfortunately, it took a quite disappointing turn. Other than the obvious absence of major characters- Tyrion, Jon & Daenerys were replaced by irrelevant characters that only had one chapter. This book actually had the potential to still be great with Arya, Sansa, Jaime, Brienne, Cersei and Asha. They’re all well-written characters but the majority of the time was wasted.
Why the hell did we need so many Greyjoy chapters? Which could’ve simply been replaced with Asha to witness the events instead of ramblings from a crazy old man? It was interesting to get insight on Dornish culture and politics, however, once again seemed pretty irrelevant.

I am going to hope as GRRM claims that A Dance of Dragons will make up for it and will have the action that we all desire.

Whilst finding the beginning slower than the previous entries, A Feast for Crows is still an addicting read just like all of A Song of Ice and Fire so far. I loved the Brienne chapters that let us see how horribly the war of the five kings had affected ordinary people. Plus it was fun to get inside Cersei's head and read all the layers to her character, and of course, Jamie's chapters are always amazing. His story over the course of the book was brilliant.

These thoughts are very disjointed. Nonetheless, aside from a couple of ironborn characters I couldn't find the enjoyment for, all the characters were great to read, and it's so fun seeing this story slowing taking shape to something greater and greater. It doesn't have the battles of previous books but the intrigue is riveting.

Another enjoyable entry by GRRM to the ASoIaF series. Doesn't feature the epic, nonstop action of ASoS, but contained some of the characters I find most interesting, and plenty of intrigue.

This book has been several years in the making. I started the series in 2012 and flew through the first three books. When I got to this one, it was an immediate stop. Westeros overload. But when this season of GoT started on HBO, I decided that I had to start reading the series again. Martin is so smart in the way that he structures his books - the first 2/3 consists of long chapters that set a strong foundation for what's coming. The last 1/3 is short, quick chapters that make the story feel much more fast-paced and action packed. When I got to that point, I just could not stop reading.returnreturnThis part of the story focuses mainly on Brienne, Sansa (Alayne), Arya, Sam, Jaime, and Cersei, among a few others. When I read this, I kept asking myself why do I keep reading these?? They are so full of heartbreak and misery - but I think that's exactly why I keep trudging through the series: I just want to know what happens! It's hard to say much more because the suspense of the stories is what makes these books addictive. If you started the series but haven't finished - I would urge you not to give up! Get to the books when you can devote the time and energy, but don't force it. While heartbreaking, it is certainly a good, sweeping story!
