I actually can’t decide if I liked it or not, but it was an extremely detailed, well thought out world, and I appreciate that. That also might be part of the issue though, some detail could have been trimmed in favor of plot.
I kind of feel like this one was all set up for the next books. I’m really attached to the characters now though… perhaps a bit of Stockholm Syndrome after all the time I had to spend with them.
Even though I really liked the three main characters, they all had similar internal battle between right and wrong, and it got a bit annoying to read them all hemming and hawing so much. Basically I think there could have been some trimming, but once I got into the world and writing I didn’t mind as much.
I wasn’t sure if I’d read the second book, but the last 50 pages or so have left me with no other choice.
But I’m still giving it four stars because credit where credit is due and it was a well written, hefty story. I’m ready for a more of a plot though and less exposition!
