Very sweet story with a winsome heroine, a dashing hero and loveable side characters. And surprisingly focused on female pleasure. Perhaps I've discovered a new breed of romance?

"Nine Rules..." or "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Romance Novel."

:)

I haven't read a full-on romance novel in YEARS and years... And certainly never one that I felt this engaging. Kudos to Callie & Ralston for reminding me that I can truly enjoy a good (naughty) romance. :)

cliche but enjoyable. my one yikes time was when they would say thing in that regency way during a sexy time. indeed he says whike he kisses her, and i burst out laughing

Calpurnia Hartwell.

Callie is far and away the star of this romance. Ralston, I could honestly take or leave. He seemed more like an amalgamation of historical heroes, rather than an individual. Definitely not my favorite MacLean hero (cough...Whit and Tommy Peck...cough). I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed with the duel and not enough groveling on Ralston's part. That said, I never think the hero grovels enough.

I adored that Callie took her future into her own hands and made her list of rules to break. Of course, shenanigans ensue and many lead to some great steamy scenes. I prefer MacLean's Bareknuckle Bastards and Hell's Belles series, but this is my favorite of the Love By Numbers series.

This has the classic MacLean problem for me, which is that the execution never quite lives up to the promise of the premise for me. Pretty sure this was her first book. Don't think I'll read the rest of this series, but I'd read more of her later stuff.

Calpurnia writes a bucket list that starts at "Kiss someone--passionately" and ends at "Be considered beautiful. Just once." Cross dressing and escorting around a rake's younger bastard sister ensues.

I had some quibbles with this book, but basically it threw me around like a rag doll. I laughed, I cried, I did whatever Ms. MacLean felt like having me do. Very well done, and included a few surprises.

Registered for a romance writing class taught by Sarah Maclean so I figured I should read one of her books and lo and behold I’m a historical romance fan now? Super enjoyed this book. It has regency era constraints but not in a depressing way (let’s be honest each Bridgerton book has at least one stone cold bummer of a scene), and a female main character with a lot of gumption. Good stuff!
