The first chapter read extremely like YA, which confused me since I never saw the book anywhere but the adult fantasy section in the bookstore. The following chapters seemed more adult fantasy to me.
From the outside it is an absolutely beautiful book, but it didn't make me like most of the main characters enough to love it. I feel slightly underwhelmed but I can't pin-point why.
I feel like I might get around to the next one in the series though.

RIYL: great characters discovering themselves and each other in a “journey to mordor” type of plot. Not overly world build-y in terms of explaining the mechanics of curses/magic, which is to my taste.

Ending somewhat resolved, clearly setting up to be a trilogy though.

This was a disappointment. No depth to the relationships, the pacing was not great, and I couldn’t be bothered to care about the outcome of any of the characters. Oh and the spice scene was so very cringe. Hard pass, I can’t think of a single person that I’d recommend this book to.

This is not just a book. Not just a novel. It is ✨️literature✨️

I need a TV series but an animated one because I can't deal with being disappointed by live castings.

I loved it, the plot, the unexpected romance, the descriptions of food, the grumpy warrior caretaker and not-so-innocent little girl trope...everything. It's perfect for fans of Tolkien and The Witcher, though I think you'd need a stomach for more pure fantasy than any other fantasy hybrids (e.g., romantasy). I am ready to buy the sequel.
