If I could give this book 6 stars then I would - it was so beautifully crafted and stunningly written. One of the best books that I have read.

She feels the pulse of life...because there are no layers between her and her planet
This is a book about isolation vs human connection. Kya is our protagonist, a lovable girl with equal strength and vulnerability. Taking place in two timelines, the past of our protagonist and how she survived in the Marsh and the murder trail of one Chase Andrews.
This book is full of intensity, while being a slower pace. A book full of heart and soul, made to make you think, what makes us human and how do our connections shape the person we become.
The writing style was so atmospheric, the prose really brought the setting of the marsh and the small town in the 60s to life. The smells, the sights, the warmth of the sun on your skin, the writer allowed this all to penetrate the book and allowed the reader to feel like a fly on the wall, watching this story unfold. You were with Kya, living the story with her instead of just being told the story, it was very intimate.
Overall, I loved this book. It has beautiful prose and characters you can really root for, all the characters were well developed and three dimensional. Kya teaches us to be more intentional with how we interact with nature, because that wilderness is where we came from and the ground beneath us is where we will go.

I was captivated my this story from the get go. A hugely strong, intelligent and independent woman juxtaposed by vast vulnerability. This story made me cry more than once.

3.5/5 ⭐️ (Audiobook)
I think the book started off slow and took me a while to get into but I really enjoyed it. This was my second read and I enjoyed it more this time around (possible because it was an audiobook). It honestly just made me feel really sad. The last chapter had me crying and I’m so glad Jodi and Tate came back into her life. Obviously love Mabel and Jump’n! Fave quote: “we are married like the geese.” “Okay, I can live with that.”
While some of the nature descriptions got a little long for me, I thought it was beautifully written. The depth of comments hit me hard: “I wasn’t aware that words could hold so much. I didn’t know a sentence could be so full." I found myself rooting for Kya and grieving with her as she moved through each loss. The back and forth snapshots between the trial and her upbringing kept me interested in the ultimate outcome.

After taking so long to finish my last book I needed a page turner and THIS DELIVERED!! Beautiful descriptions of the setting’s ecology. Well developed likable characters with good hearts and intentions. Poetry. I don’t know what else I could’ve asked for.
