A lovely read, that in my opinion finally deserves (at least some of) the hype. While the love-triangle-murder-plot feels a bit plump and predictable, the descriptions of nature and the deep looks into the human soul and its' abysses are absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. You can see that the author knows what she is talking about, when she often describes the flora and fauna around the protagonist in more detail, than the human (inter-)actions. And she paints an emotional picture of a strong, yet stricken woman that (seemingly) always had to fight for herself to survive, that had to endure all she had to endure from a very small age onwards, just to be let down once again by the people that are nearest to her.

If you liked this book, good for you! I unfortunately didn't think it was for me... To me, the book tried to be revolutionary but was not.
Jumpin' and Mabel were the best parts of the book.

If you’ve seen the film like I’ve had then you’re in for a treat. The pacing of this book and the feel of it is more impactful than most novels I’ve read recently. Kya’s character development is the most impactful considering the hardships she’s been through although the development makes her slightly flawed in the end. It’s a huge different ending than the film and plays out a lot better than how they revealed the murderer. There is a very questionable age difference between Kya and Tate but the time period it’s based in it’s normalized despite it’s disgusting moral in today’s time period.
Graphic: Child abuse, Pedophilia, Sexual content
Moderate: Abandonment
Read this THEN watch the film. The book does a lot better job with Kya’s story than the film.
I loved this book! It started a little slow and took me a little bit to get in to it but once I was, I couldn't wait to finish it! Its very descriptive and paints an amazing picture. I could literally picture every single detail throughout the entire book.
Once or Twice a year I end up reading a book that I know absolutely nothing about. I’ve seen this book in book stores and under bestselling lists but the circumstances that caused me to buy this book, I’m not sure, I think there was a best seller sale on Amazon and I bought it. It was in my library for months and I like to read these books in between my binges of huge Epic Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. I finished a series and needed to start something small and hard hitting...
This book was exactly that. The way the Author sets up the stage and the characters and Seamlessly brings this book back and forth through time always keeps questions on your mind and keeps you enthralled.
I loved this book, it it so far out of my wheel house and I’m always pleasantly surprised when I jump into a book I’ve never researched and basically bought by complete accident.
I was openly weaping with tears down my face at the end of this book. 5/5 Stars I think this book is for everyone.
