Was this original? No. Non-Stereotypical characters? No. Tropes we have never seen? No. Can you care about the characters who are killed off? No.
Does it matter? Nope.
This book scared me and books don't normally have that power over me. This wasn't a ghost story, it was pure humans, and it shook me up. It terrified me, while I was reading the novel and when I put it down and went to bed or walked around my nighttime everyone asleep house with the lights on. (Honestly best time to read it)
And the mystery. Hell, did I see it, no way. My mind was guessing and guessing with each red herring and it was so much fun. Totally didn't see who was going to be the killer but I knew the motivation behind it.
I loved this book, the best mystery thriller I have ever read, that gave me chills, creeped me out and made me fall in love with this book.
Also, now I am not the biggest fan of third person view but after I got into the story, I forgot that it was written in third person and that rarely happens. I felt like I was Meg, in the story with her. And the setting was done phenomenal. McNeil's writing was top notch.
I could go on and on about my love for this book so all I am going to say is that, you should read this.

I want to start by pointing out that this is the first ebook (aka non audiobook) I’ve read this year! (Yay! I’m giving myself a little pat on the back for sitting still long enough to read this!) But I was also delightfully surprised that I enjoyed this! It was just creepy and gory enough, and the mystery twisty enough, to keep me guessing throughout. The killer reveal and stand-off really reminded me of the Scream movies, which I adore. I’ve had this book on my TBR since 2014 and I’m so glad I finally got around to actually reading it.
I read this book in (literally) 3hrs. I was going to do a little bit of reading before going to bed, and I couldn't stop. (FYI- Don't read this book in the dark, with a flashlight. I did that...) It was amazing. It had so many plot twists, I was guessing the whole time. Even in the last chapters, I thought I knew who the killer was, and I was totally wrong. People (Not telling who, 'cause SPOILERS) who supposedly died, were alive. I was engrossed in the book, that its not even funny. Also, Meg is literally me. Its almost creepy how similar Meg is to me. The nerdy writer, always overlooked, unable to communicate her thoughts. Its like Ms. McNeil was writing about me. So, I connected with Meg very easily, and that helped me enjoy TEN even more then I would of with a different character.
I give TEN 5 out of 5 stars. But, don't blame me if you can't sleep at night after reading TEN...

so awesome! i would recommend this book to everyone! ten ppl go onto an island while a horrible storm is coming. their parents have no idea where they are. they have no power, no service, no dvds, nothing. when they wake up tge next morning they find that one person has hung herself, leaving a suicide note. the next person falls off of the slipper walkaway. just an accident? two more are found dead. along with the thomas's. a mysterious diary turns up leaving clues and turning everyone against each other. is there someone else on the island or is one of these people the killer?
you will never guess who it is! the book is such a page turner, and sucks you in even more at the end! go read this book!!

Even years later from the first time I read this, I still like it. 🤷♀️ Even though its very cliche and follows And Then There Were None beat for beat, I still enjoy it. Same characters annoy me, some I still enjoy, and others I still didn't care for. Not the best, but still a read that I enjoy. However, #Murdertrending by this same author is definitely my favorite from the thrillers she has written.
