Pros:
- EXCELLENT narrator.
- Well written, tightly plotted, well executed (reminded me of True Detective S1/3)
NO WOMEN DIED!!! I think this was intentionally done and I very much appreciate it. You can make the argument that they weren't well developed but most characters weren't compared to Titus. - I enjoy getting into the mind of a Black male protagonist! I kinda wish this was a series so I could still follow along with Titus' journey.
Cons:
The copganda is STRONG. It falls into the trap of minoritized people thinking that they can reform the police, but I push back against that assertion, even in fiction. A system that corrupt will eventually corrupt you.

This was my first book by S.A. Cosby, and it will certainly not be my last. I was immediately drawn in by the writing, and I only grew more engrossed as the book progressed.
This book has so many layers. At its core, it is a thriller. Yet there are so many more elements woven throughout. The author tackled themes of racism, social injustice, and religion head on. There were so many complexities within the story itself, as well as within the characters.
Absolutely incredible writing. I had an extremely hard time setting this book down for even a moment.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for their next book. However, I would definitely check the triggers for this book prior to reading.
2.75 stars?
I wanted to like this more than I actually did. I found myself wishing that the author would trust the reader to understand the points he was trying to make. The writing was really good, there was just a lot of it that felt repetitive and disrupted the flow. Would love to see this as a movie adaptation or tv series!! Will definitely read Razorblade Tears next.

I saved SO many quotes from this book. The best mystery/thriller I've read in a long time, with the added value of a unique perspective. The main character is a black sheriff in the South with a rigid lifestyle and strong moral compass. This book is full violence, grit, racism, southern history, and a mystery that keeps you turning the page.
