Written like one long run on sentence.

A book I re-read every few years and enjoy more each time.

I didn’t expect a story about fly fishing to enter my all time favorites but it was stunning. Maclean’s writing stopped me in my tracks more than once—his observations about life hit you out of nowhere. All at once profound and funny and satisfying to read.

While regarded as a classic text to environmentalists, I found this book to be very surface level when it comes to respecting nature. Maybe this is because I grew up outside and engage with the river in a very different way, but many of his thoughts seemed very simple concepts to grasp.

One of those books that I kept thinking I should like more, but ended up thinking I was glad I read it, but it is so much about brothers and fathers and sons that I kept feeling like I was missing something.

Simply amazing. The prose is poetry and is told with the skillful palette of a journalist. (But I'm not biased, at all.) It tells the story of relationships and nature — both environmental and human. I hadn't read it before dating my own angler, but his recommendation (as someone who does not like to read) is high praise, in and of itself.

Just not for me right now. I’ll try again in the future because this is my best friend’s favorite book, but it’s not the right time now.
