Maybe I'll come back and give this 5 stars later. It was the kind of story and writing that you don't realize is going to be meaningful until like a hundred pages in, and usually there's still enough time to start paying it the attention it deserves then, but because these were short stories — then they ended. But really lovely. A River Runs Through It is stunning. I'm getting into these fishing books.

Heartbreaking and poignant in his writing style, Maclean manages to still make a reader laugh out loud with his witty prose. I find it amazing that he only began writing late in his life, because his memories seem so clear of life as a young man. His outdoorsmen spirit reminds me of long days I've spent in the military in the middle of nowhere with nothing but my mind to keep me company. His story makes me simultaneously wish I had brothers...and wonder if I could ever live through losing them.

Read this one out loud to Scot. What a beautiful book. To Scot’s dismay I had to cry a little at the end. :)
It hits the same delicacy and intimacy brought about by Hemingway's nature scenes, while also leading one to believe it could double as an instructional manual for fly fishing. But this book is ultimately characterized by the beauty of the Montana ravines and the underlying tragedy of two brothers and their failure to understand each other .
This was wonderful. It's too bad he didn't write books his entire life.
I adored this book, it was perfect in every way. This is one of the first books I’ve read that captures the feeling and not just the physical attributes of nature. I can’t wait to read it again
