4-4.5 stars,
Dang okay this book yes had its predictable moments, looking at you Ansher, but even with that it was still a great read!
For being a debut book I am really impressed. The humor reminded me of [a:Raven Kennedy|18343962|Raven Kennedy|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1551118362p2/18343962.jpg]'s I this gave me some Cupidity vibes, which I LOVED!
Lana and her boys (Leo, Luke, Zedd, Hale and Ash) all grew up in foster care together, they formed a tight friendship that was leaning to the more than friends side. Also within this world a lot of natural disasters were happening, it was pretty much their norm, which I thought was an interesting twist to how one event will change the course of the future.
Lana has gone through a lot growing up in the system but luckily Beth took in her and the boys and raised them for about 15 years. But the day before Lana's 21st birthday she and the guys experience some unexpected life...."upgrades". I don't want to give away anything else. I feel like going in to this book blind is the way to go. You get more out of it without having to expect what is going to happen next.
The next part is for me to remember what happened when the next book comes around.
Lana is actually Oslana from the beginning of the book and all of her mates are reincarnated as well. The only problem is that Ash had a Jekyll and Hyde situation with Ansher (who took over his body). You can tell that from the start when he is showing signs of being more territorial of Lana and taking it out on the other guys. I did predict that but I am not mad I did.
Now some key things to remember for the next book:
Leo: (Luke's Twin) Fire is his power, jokesters
Luke: (Leo's Twin) Water is his power, jokesters
Zedd: Nerd, wind is his power, quiet cutie, cooks and wants to maintain peace
Hale: power unknown....? maybe Earth..? Serious one, the Leader
Ash: Ansher power/aka the dark side, and lightening, if that is it?
Lana: All her mates powers
Serenity: Witch that is helping Lana and the guys figure out how to control the powers
Gaia: Earth Goddess, reincarnated Lana and the boys to help fight Ansher/dark fae.
I cannot wait for the second book, which if it isn't in my hands soon I will be pissed.

This is my first book by R.L and i can honestly say I'm not disappointed at all this book was amazing and dose have a few dark parts in it but they perfectly balance out the book.
The characters in this book are amazing and i love the relationship between the main cast and the backstory they have together and how they all grew up together in the same foster home.
This story has the perfect mixture of funny moments along with moments that have you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next.
I have honestly never been this shocked by how much iv enjoyed a book in a long time and this book was one of the best iv read this year and i cant wait to start the next one.

I just didn’t believe that the heroine and heroes grew up together, and were best-friends—their dynamic and interactions didn’t convey their closeness.

Wow...Just wow!
I just wanted to note that there are some Trigger topics such as PTSD, abuse, sexual assault, violence, also issues surrounding foster care system that should be taken under advisement.
This is R.L Caulder's debut story and it was freaking amazing. I was taken on a wild emotional rollercoaster ride. One moment, it was hilarious and playful and fun. Next moment, you feel the pain, and anger and sadness the character(s) feel. She did an amazing job with the different displays of emotions.
The characters: I loved how the different types of personalities complements each other so well. You have your playful twins, shy introvert, the leader, and the alpha. You also have a kickass MC who has been through hell and back and battling her inner demons and still remains strong for her boys. The love between them and the MC felt so real. You can feel how much they care about her. It was very well done.
It was just a fantastic read. Although, yes, it does end in a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting more. Can't wait until the Desolation #2 comes out.

I really enjoyed the prologue for this book, it really left me wanting more and I was dying to know the connection that Lana and the boys had to this female in the first part of the book. The story, however, didn't progress much at the beginning and I actually put the book down at 25%. There wasn't much world-building at all for the genre that this fell into and I didn't know what to expect with the development of the plot but there wasn't anything really happening. The main focus seemed to be on Lana and the boys figuring out how to start their relationship. I really wanted to be thrown into this chaotic world with a great RH romance plot but it fell short.
Lana wasn't a character that I could connect with. At times she was very impulsive and too sassy, some times unnecessarily so. Actually, I didn't connect with the characters much at all, other than Hale. They came across very young and I would have loved them to be slightly older, allowing their personalities to be more mature. Lana and the boys all have separate moments together and I wanted to really see a different side to Lana each time but this didn't come across, she was very much the same with every guy and it was only each guy who had a different personality. I really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did because the cover is beautiful and the blurb sounded amazing but I couldn't finish the book.
