This book was a fresh new perspective to the paranormal romances going around. This book starts out in typical America with the six main characters as every day college students. They have had a rough start, but found their way together by ending up placed in the same foster home.

A tragic event leads Lana into finding out life is never what it seems, and she is actually a very powerful fae from another realm. She meets a kicka** witch who helps her learn about her powers. Her Harem is large with 5 love interests. Each man brings something different to the relationship, and feeds a part of her soul that needs to be fulfilled. There is something a little different about this Harem that I loved reading about....... no spoilers!

This book is the debut book of R.L. Caulder. It doesn't read like a debut, and is beautifully written. It is the first in the series, and I am excited to see what the next book holds.

The high fantasy of this book is so good! Not too much world building and it’s easy to follow. The smut is just right for the first book and the main character is like able enough.

“The past is dead. The future is unborn, while the present is alive. So live, Lana”

Wow okay, I just finished this book and needed a few moments to collect myself. I am absolutely awe struck by the progression of this book—beginning in a world plagued by unusually fierce natural disasters and a budding romance with the 5 boys she’s grown up with; to a multi-dimensional, Goddess-given quest to save a war-torn realm destroyed in a past life. Full of everything you could ever ask for: romance, action, humour, intensity and an all-consuming story.

I was so impressed with the multiple POVs, which added so much more depth and made each of the 5 love interests easier to connect with and distinguish between. Seriously want to reiterate the talent, time and effort it must’ve taken to conjure up SIX incredible characters to give us deeper insight into, without it becoming convoluted or losing track of the advancement of the bigger plot. I absolutely loved this book! Detonation can’t come soon enough.

Also, Lana’s rhyme is worth it’s own mention

I haven’t made up my mind about this book yet. It hasn’t completely sucked me in, but I don’t dislike it by any means either. I’m a bit put off by the immaturity of the characters. This reads very YA to me. There’s so much talk of the connection between the characters, but I don’t FEEL it. But I’m going to give the second book a chance and I’m praying to Gaia that these characters grow up, because I really want to like this. There are a ton of funny moments and if I get some character development in book 2, this has the potential to be a really great series.

I couldn't really get passed how annoying the FMC was

DNF after 5 chapters. The FMC just acted too childish and I found it annoying for her age.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 16%.

While the reincarnated FMC Lana is described to be 21 years old, the story after the prologue reads more like a contemporary young adult novel full of horny 16 year old teenagers. Starting off with a group of best friends is a certainly a different take on the genre, but the relationship development and personal interactions really didn't work for me. Chapters were switched out between point of views, so we could get a look at everyone's thoughts on how they wanted to develop the relationship further from a platonic to sexual while walking around with boners. The contrast between the joking immature conversation and serious abusive backgrounds from each character interspersed also threw me off.

Wasn't interested in committing to the story any further after the guys revealed to Lana that they were okay with their relationship progressing further from a platonic one and she started taunting them in the kitchen with her body.

Desolation is the first book in this series. It is a modern fantasy RH novel. This book is told from multiple points of view between Lana and her mates. I really like this writing style because it lets me know what the characters are thinking and feeling. It starts out with Lana in her past life losing her mates, due to a battle.

In the new life Lana is with a foster mom named Beth. Beth also fostered her five brothers Ash, Zedd, Hale and the twins Leo and Luke. Lana has feelings for all of them, but isn't sure if they feel the same way as her. They all bring something different to the table.

Their 21st birthday is coming up and the boys want to do something special for Lana. She learns that they have feelings for her as well. They are out and about when a storm picks up the day before their birthday and their foster mother passes away from complications. Lana learns that Beth had passed away before, but was reincarnated to take care of Lana and the five boys until their 21st birthday, and it was time for her to go and be with her husband and son.

At the hotel after their foster mother passes, Lana learns that they have all been reincarnated and are all Fae and they need to protect their realm. A witch comes to collect them for training. While they are at their training Lana has meetings with Gaia a goddess and learns that her five boys are her mates for life. They were all together in her past life. They are training go learn their powers and how to work with them. This is their last chance to save their realm.

As they are training Lana learns who has the dark magic and has to battle with them. Can she get enough training before returning to her realm? Can her mates protect her. This book ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait for the next book in the series!
