So far, this was my least favorite Lucy score book that I’ve read. It was very slow and full of some very stupid decisions/ self sabotaging that was avoidable with just a little bit more communication. I had to force myself to finish the later half of the book. There was so much repetition from the first book that I found myself sighing and rolling my eyes several times just trying to trudge through it. Gloria’s story is sad but redemptive in the end. Aldo is painted as vain in some ways but his love for Gloria overshadows that in my opinion. I don’t like the idea of him not fighting harder for her and know what was going on between Gloria and Glenn from the start.

🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
3.5/5 I liked the book thought it was a bit rushed but I think I’m just used to reading 800+ page books. I really like Gloria and Aldo’s characters. Though I cannot fully relate to Gloria, it was nice reading about going from a toxic relationship to a healthy one. Aldo is
Intelligent. Beautiful. Commendable.
The ability to take back control of a life that was stolen from you and make it better is a strength people don’t get enough credit for. The fear, anxiety, doubt, anger, constantly running through you never ends. But being able to learn, grow and accomplish something, no matter how big or small, is astonishing.
Two broken souls finding each other again when they both need it most and healing together while simultaneously berating themselves for things they can’t change. Aldo and Gloria have an enormous amount of strength and courage but also are humble and genuine. Gloria wanting to be her own hero and take back control of her life. Aldo trying to fight the constant war in his mind of not being enough and let others help him so he can help himself.
“He wrapped her in his thick arms and pulled her close. “I can’t wait to come home to you, Glo.” She rested her cheek on his chest. “Come home safe, okay?” “Promise.”
“Hey, one more thing,” he said, picking his way carefully out of the flower bed. “What that?” “If you date…” She cocked her head, listening. “Just try not to fall in love.”
“You weren’t worried that I’d curl into the fetal position behind the register?” “It took backbone to leave. It took backbone and more than a bit of recklessness to want to confront him.” Claire picked up a thick-stemmed peony. “You’re not some dainty blossom waiting to be crushed, honey. And eventually people will see that. Be patient with them…and yourself.”
“I don’t even know what I think about myself. Am I smart? Am I organized? Am I a good person? Or am I just a collection of all the damage I’ve allowed someone to do to me? And if so, how do I become my own hero? Because I’m ready. I’m done being damaged and fragile and careful and scared. I’m done.”
“Don’t you dare stop,” Gloria gasped. “I don’t care if I have oxygen. I just want you. All of you. Every piece, every scar, every millimeter of flawed perfection. You’re mine, Aldo. Please make me yours.”
“There’s so much u want to show you, give you,” he said, kisses to her neck, her jaw, as he moved inside her. “This isn’t enough.” Her eyes fluttered open. “We have all night.” “Still not enough.”
“Mija, sometimes the thing that makes the most sense is wrong. Don’t hide away, trying to protect yourself from ever getting hurt again. It will be a sad and colorless life. Without pain, there is no joy.”
